I just started delivering for them a few weeks ago and it’s decent pay and easy work. In fact I’m scheduled 4 10 hour days of my choosing and I usually get done in 8 but still get paid for 10 hours. $24/hr.

I don’t know if I just work out of a good location but like 90% of what that video said is bullshit… and our location definitely is not striking.

Like the video hammered on carbon footprint, meanwhile Amazon is completely converting its fleets to electric vehicles. I’m in one right now, on my lunch break, typing this.

Feel free to AMA. Dumbass people downvoting because reality doesn’t align with your misguided, counterfeit morally superior anger. Nothing says bitch like downvoting without engaging.

There’s things you can talk about on here and there’s things that you can’t. If you mention that you like Amazon, everybody that has no clue about anything and that just reads articles with no real experience anywhere will down vote you. With that said I hope this strike works out for them. Anybody have the actual numbers? Hundreds or thousands definitely ain’t enough.

Honestly, Lemmy seems worse than reddit, people actually just upvote and downvote based on feels instead of facts. Or things that sound good regardless of accuracy. Probably going to be done with it. Too many idiots here.

It has been pretty rough when it comes to talking about anything of any significance. You have first hand experience that should mean something. These people read an article and it somehow means more. A real downer especially running your own instance in the fediverse.

It’s true that one facility can’t account for others. I’d be curious to see real evidence all around the globe for the god awful treatment you read about. It just really is hard to believe after having worked there with seeing the utmost respect all around for the most part and safety pushed like a motherfucker (annoyingly so honestly). The complaints I was always involved in were lazy fellow coworkers and wanting more pay. I’m around $40/hr right now and still want more pay. You should always want more pay. You should also work your way up to it. Amazon provides tons of tools for educating yourself and leaving the company to head to an entirely different field. That’s what I did. If you’re going to be a replaceable baseline employee you need to treat it like a stepping stone and use everything they provide and leave. Or work your way up in the company and become irreplaceable.

You would think, right? At the very least, generate a discussion instead of people just downvoting me and calling me a scab, or telling me that my first hand experience isn’t a proper source because some online video told them otherwise… yeah, I think I’ve had enough of it. Initially I thought Lemmy was better than reddit, or that it was like reddit when it first started, when genuine discussion was to be had, but it really isn’t… it’s the same shit as reddit today, just with less people on it.

repeatedly replying with this identical comment didn’t help your case at all. it further makes you look like a bot.

also your knee jerk reaction isn’t doing your position any favors. obviously some people have ok experiences working for Amazon otherwise no one would do it. but I think the majority and systemic issue of poor treatment is pretty clear at this point. and while you may not have direct experience of this it would be considerate to recognize that most do and deserve whatever support we can spare.

I never did delivery but I was a packer running 4 10s at 14 an hour and god it was unbelievably unbearable. I constantly had to hold my piss and the job was so boring just standing there in a line, unable to listen to music or even talk to your neighbors most of the time without getting a talking from your manager. Seriously worst job I ever had, if I was still working there damn right I’d be out there striking.

Delivery must be a much nicer department than packing. Also I know for a fact the strikes are real I have a friend in it currently.

Why the fuck would they not let you talk to people around you? How does making you miserable increase productivity?

I imagine music, if it’s on headphones, might be some kind of safety hazard.

I would think a good manager might allow a speaker at a reasonable volume, provided a group in the area will not complain about the music choices of others. Then you have arguments the manager has to deal with. So I might understand the reason for that policy.

EDIT maybe you give each person an hour to play the music they want. At their station, on their device.

You aren’t allowed to have any electronic devices, they are crazy about not letting anyone record things or show the outside world what it looks like inside the warehouses. Something about a ‘state of the art’ conveyor system.

So no phones, watches, jewelry of any type. Also wasn’t allowed to have super baggy clothes or big jackets.

Since you went into my comment history, I would really love for you to actually provide a valid counter to something you think I am incorrect on… because I can assure you, that “trust me bro” will be backed up by factual evidence if you enter a discussion with me. The only thing I can think of offhand is someone I talked about Linux with, who was most definitely wrong. And I can educate you on the topic if you care for it.

If you’re not afraid of being embarrassed, please… please make a valid counter to something I’ve said that you disagree with. Otherwise, you with the deflective counter, “trust me bro,” position is a bit hypocritical, don’t you think?

Personally, I have too much integrity for someone to call me out to be a hypocrite, or not to enter a factual based discussion. We’ll see how much you regard yourself in the like manner. Because I’m calling you a hypocrite right now.

They require you to work Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, News Day, all the holidays, weekends. I worked 6 12hr days, my only day off was Sunday.

Same, but I’ve got away without buying from Amazon for 5+ years now, so I’m pretty sure anyone can do it.

A couple of times a package I ordered from some random website would come in an amazon box, just because they incidentally use the service, but that was it.

They got me with the free prime delivery. I’ll get, like, a single bottle of Tylenol delivered. My husband likes the card benefits, so they got him there. Plus, sometimes we watch shows and movies if Netflix or Youtube doesn’t have them (we only pirate if what we want can’t be found elsewhere, since we are fortnate enough to be able to pay for the media we consume)

I hate to say it, but… it’s a great service

But even I can walk away, and stand in solidarity with workers. They deserve better, and Amazon can afford to give it to them

Yeah. Your item on Amazon often will say “order fulfilled by Company Y.” You can look that company up to see if you can order directly from them, that way they still get the sale without Bezos taking his cut.

I did this a few times. Ordered directly from the company instead of through Amazon. But then an expensive order didn’t show up. Amazon would have replaced it. But others companies’ policies are not so customer friendly. I was in the middle of contesting the charge 3 weeks later when a neighbor showed up at my front door with the package. Said he found it while clearing brush along our common road.

Now I only buy through Amazon. If the neighbor had not been honest, I could have been out $280. And yes, we do have a problem with overworked USPS drivers leaving packages at the bottom of the road.

Nothing will come out of that strike. It’s just 1 day and then back to being a wage slave. If anything, it will prove to Amazon that they, Amazon, are pulling the levers. In order for a strike to be effective, it has to last until changes are agreed upon which is impossible without a strong union.

yeah definitely not. When you sell on eBay you’re entirely responsible for how your item gets to the buyer (I’ve done it). The closest you’ll get is paying eBay for a shipping label.

There are a few specialized programs ebay runs (card vault, authenticity guarantee, international shipping dispatch) where they do have direct employees - not very many I’ll grant you. From everything I’ve been able to find out, they’re treated at-or-better-than the average for warehouse gigs, and the skilled staff are treated like cattle (but cattle where the rancer knows the beef tastes better if the cows are happy and have those cute brush things)

Yep, they’re surely not at all scrupulous but I use them all the time now, and indeed I try to buy from specific sites if possible. Amazon is the devil and they’ve had enough of my money.

I’m mean, to be honest, yes. I haven’t purchased anything from Amazon in years. It was an adjustment, but easier than you think. Most times, I just wait a little longer for free delivery of something I don’t care about getting in two days anyway. One of the other changes I made was getting a membership to a Costco type place that has local delivery for my household stuff like cereal and toilet paper. You should give it a shot.

The actual boss move would be to quit in masses and found a competing company to actually bring down Amazon. But of course all of them are utterly incapable of anything like that.

If BF has lower volume due to inflation, this will actually result in more profit for Amazon due to reduced wages.

Seriously, it’s “twice a day” - because a clock stuck on 1:13 will be right in the AM and PM.

He often presents populist ideas, even when they aren’t in line with his normal rhetoric.

I think he does it to grab attention or appeal to people with that idea. He then spews a ton of well-polished half-truths and straight lies to make whatever point he was after in the first place.

It’s not uncommon for anyone to agree with a sentence or two from him or of context, but in context, it’s all garbage.

I haven’t kept up much with fucker “punchable face” Carlson but from what I’ve heard, after being fired from Fox, he has started to backpedal on a lot of things he said and is actively trying to salvage his “journalist” career

No he isn’t. If anything he’s gone more Info Wars style.

Just to play devils advocate; his leaked texts confirmed he never believed some of the stuff he said (which makes him more of an asshole).

I wouldn’t be surprised if he was pressured by Murdoch etc. to push certain narratives.

Please don’t pity him. His first episode on his new show (Tucker on X), was him interviewing a lunatic who claims to have had a gay, drug-fueled orgy with Obama. Tucker literally interviewed this guy as if it were a serious claim, ignoring the fact that the guy is a convicted felon who is known for lying about crazy shit.

Definitely don’t pity him. This cunt is responsible for people dying. I’m not being hyperbolic either.

Let’s hope the striking workers can afford to live without pay before Amazon cave in and pay up!

I cannot express how much I love this. Jeff Bezos is an evil piece of dog poo… actually, that is an insult to dog poo.

Yeah he’s only the single largest shareholder, he has absolutely no influence at all

Jeff bezos owns 9.5%, then to institutions under vanguard each owned 6%. He’s probably still influential-based on his prior position as CEO, but he can’t force a decision that the rest of the board wants.
