Probably a reference to ‘common core’, a new way to teach arithmetic developed by mathematicians and educators geared less toward rote memorization and more toward intuitive understanding of numbers and patterns.
The problem is that it’s “not the way I was taught” and therefore wrong, ridiculous, and a conspiracy probably.
