I’m going to do these periodically.
Title kinda says all.
I’ll have my own reply later.
Special weekly question:
What do you like most about 2023’s repertoire of video games?
Baldur’s Gate 3 (more or less a addiction in continuous character rerolls) has been my main focus though I’m also trying out Darktide. It’s honestly a really good 40k FPS and I love playing an angry Irish accented Zealot gal bashing peeps with a giant electric hammer.
Oh also a bunch of indies I snagged at the fall sale like Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood and I Was a Teenage Exocolonist.
Darktide looks great, but is it true that it has white supremacist hand-signals? Anyway, Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is a game I have my eyes on.
In all honesty the devs are mainly European who are likely unaware of how the US far right turned the ‘OK’ signal into a dogwhistle, but yeah the psyker dose something that can be either an ‘OK’ symbol or some form of meditative handsignal. The more worrisome aspect of the game is in relation to how 40k fandom has had a Neo-Nazi problem due in part to having a faction that is a fascist state similar to Starship Troopers and in which no one understands it was made as parody.
Apparently, the “neo-Nazi problem” has gone down recently due to certain projects and an influx of newer fans, from what I’ve heard.
GW also issued some good statements on the subject as well, it’s better than how it was in the 2000s, Battletech is going through a similar process as well.
Oh yeah, Battletech has made improvements.
I’ve been plunking away at the Crisis Core: FF7 remaster recently. It’s fine - definitely fits the niche of a game that I can enjoy in 15-20 minute chunks.
Recently finished Venba - it was cute but very short. The filled dosa chapter has me wanting to try making that, okonomiyaki, or yachaejeon lol.
I really like games that you just play in “15-20 minute chunks” and then stop for a while.
I wish they’d do a Peacewalker port to Switch, but I’m probably better off just eventually upgrading from my RG351P.
I remember when I was the only person interested in Peacewalker (this was before the game came out, mind you).
Still plodding through Tears of the Kingdom and working on the Zora dungeon.
The fetch quests and ‘go talk to somebody’ quests back and forth between the same two locations kinda sucked, but the gimmick of the dungeon itself is so cool that I can’t really be mad about it lol
Glad you’re enjoying Tears of the Kingdom!

“Lies of piss”
Must be a game starring Margaret Thatcher! Yeah, totally!
Honestly, mainly Minecraft. There’s a roguelike mod pack called Vault Hunters that has been absorbing all my time. I got really angry at the incompleteness of the last mod pack that I played, so it’s refreshing to play one that’s so well refined. I also broke my wrist recently and just got to the point where I can actually play a game with my left hand again. This was the one that I was waiting for getting back to.
In addition, I’ve been playing some Shattered Pixel Dungeon and Forager, since those only required one hand while I couldn’t play with Minecraft.

See above.
Enjoy!
Just finished Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
DragonballZ Kakarot. Before that was Cyberpunk 2077 and FF7R, Crisis Core Remaster.
Currently playing Batman Arkham Asylum: GOTY and will be working my way up through its sequels Arkham City and Arkham Knight - been on the back burner a long time. Also Atomic Heart, Outter Worlds and just started Okamai HD.
Playing Hades and Vampire Survivors when I don’t have a lot of time - casual.
Looking forward to getting Star Ocean: The Second Story Remake when it goes on sale, and FF7R: Rebirth. Going to have to jump into Baulders Gate 3 sometimes, Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. Replay Bayonetta (she’s just funny and sassy dommy AF). Want to get Path of Exile 2 when it comes out and Hades 2.
Damn, a reminder that I should play Path of Exile 2 and Okami HD as well, at least eventually.
Playing Grim Dawn at the moment, it scratches my brain in such a way that I can binge it for hours on end lol
Also gonna start talos principal 2 soon, and maybe bg3.
I have Grim Dawn in my library just havent gotten to it yet. Glad to hear its good. Did talos 2 come out? Nice! I’ll probably grab it on the holiday sale.
Yeah, Grim Dawn apparently scratches that itch well for a lot of people.
I have not played games in awhile :( But I’m planning on picking up the Star Ocean 2 remake at some point.
Good luck, then! Hope you enjoy it!
New stuff:
God of War (on a 3080TI maxxxed outtttt)
Old stuff:
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
MvC2
Celeste GBA port
Smash Brawl
old stuff is played on a Retroid pocket 3+
Oh, Celeste is good.
And yeah, the Retroid Pocket 3+ is a good retro handheld.
I don’t play video games because I find them addictive and I feel bad when I’ve spent all night staring at a screen moving meeple instead of doing things that make me feel good about myself. (No shade on games, they seem pretty cool that’s the problem for me lol).
Nice to know we’re friends though.
I don’t believe one should be “productive” all the time, but that’s just me.
And yes, I understand that they can be addictive, especially depending on the game.
Yeah I mean I agree. Video games are just a way of spending my unproductive time that makes me feel very empty, and that’s a bad pairing with something I find addictive. I’m not trying to suggest you or anyone else shouldn’t play them.
Yeah, I getcha, don’t worry about it, fam.
been playing some coop halo with my lovely girlfriend
has been very funWow, nice! That’s good to hear, comrade!
Picked up Tears of the Kingdom again. Its fun but I think its just a bit too long, I was ready to wrap things up before I had even explored the last two regions. I guess playing Breath of the Wild not long before TOTK didn’t help.
Also, Pokemon Showdown, as always. Been ploughing through the low ladder on random battles, and I’ve switched from VGC doubles to OU singles because there’s not been enough VGC changes to keep my interested.
Also pirated the Sims 4 with all the DLC. Made myself, applied to college, got terrible grades somehow (I genuinely dont know what I did wrong) and then had to drop out because I was broke. So that got a bit too real
“just a bit too long,”
This, and a lot of other video games nowadays.
I’m playing Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3. I’m making good time on Elden Ring, but taking my time with Baldur’s Gate 3 until I finish the former. Afterward, I’ll probably go back to finish The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Otherwise, I’ll play, in the future, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader (by Owlcat Games) and an older game called Ib, which I heard is kinda like OMORI.
As for the special weekly question:
I think this year’s video games were consistently of high quality and even the AAA games were good this time (whereas normally they’re below the par of AA and Indie games, I feel).
Ib is very much rpgmakercore
RPGmakercore? What do you mean by that?
I almost exclusively play Darkest Dungeon 1 & 2, but I did finish Digimon Survive after a half-year of off-an-on play and I keep trying to get into Hylics with similar nature. That said, I do love the variety of games out this year. I look forward to playing Alan Wake 2 in a year or two when it goes on sale and maybe I’ll hop back into Horizon: Zero Dawn. I’ve been on that file since the game was released in 2016 or so. It’s so pretty and fun, but my ADHD makes gaming difficult.
Yeah, my ADHD also makes gaming difficult, though lately I’ve had more success playing games.
Lol, so I actually don’t do much in the way of regular gaming on my own nowadays. I’m big into the potentials of VR, but I’m also poor, so when I do play it tends to be HalfLife:Alyx again or some campaign someone made for it.
Ah, fair.
Did you intend to post the second exact same thread?
Edit: I’m an idiot and didn’t see that the second post was a cross post to c/CTH. L taken.
Crossposting my response from there: Right now I’m primarily enjoying Minecraft, Girls Frontline, and WorldBox. We’ll see what the future brings (Girls Frontline 2 when it comes out should be lit.)
Oh, it’s fine.
The formating of Hexbear makes it look like a duplicate at a glance. No L need be taken, good friend.
Was playing Terminator: Resistance, in which there are Terminators, and you resist them
Thanks for explaining; for a moment, I thought it was about the Terminators themselves resisting!
Replaying Pool Of Radiance and also started Baldur’s Gate 1, been on a dnd kick.
Have you finished Baldur’s Gate 3 yet or are you playing Baldur’s Gate 1 (and eventually Baldur’s Gate 2) in anticipation of Baldur’s Gate 3?
Also, I think Pool of Radiance is a Fire Emblem game? I could be wrong, I think.
My PC can’t handle BG 3 sadly, and this is my first time through BG 1. Pool Of Radiance is the first in the Gold Box series of AD&D games from the 80’s.
I would suggest getting a Steam Deck.
Cheaper than a “gaming PC” or “gaming laptop.”
But much more powerful or just as, at the very least.
You can even get the cheapest one and get extra storage later.
A good investment rather than saving up to eventually get a new PC or gaming laptop.
Cheaper than a “gaming PC” or “gaming laptop.”
But much more powerful or just as, at the very least.
What? No, it’s really not. The Steam Deck is cool and surprisingly powerful for what it is, but it’s still just a laptop with integrated graphics in an even smaller form factor. Even a low cost discrete GPU like the GTX 1650 is going to trounce it performance wise.
Honestly, it’s much better than any “gaming laptop” I’ve ever gotten.
Steam Deck looks cool and would probably be what I’m aiming for.
Yeah, it’s at least on par with a good “gaming laptop” (which I think are honestly scams at this point).
I think Pool of Radiance is a Fire Emblem game?
the fire emblem game is path of radiance
i switch the two around all the time too lolOh lol
also started Baldur’s Gate 1, been on a dnd kick
I’ve been on a handful of infinity engine binges throughout the years. Great games - hope you enjoy them!
I’m currently playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 (for the third time lol), Final Fantasy X and Cult of the Lamb.
The only new games I’ve played this year are Sea of Stars and the Pokemon DLC (which I’m looking forward to the second part of)
I recommend everything here especially Sea of Stars.
I’m also going to play Sea of Stars.
It has a very good ending.
