Battle of the mouth-breathers. Should be epic!
I avoid pop culture wherever possible so I am almost entirely ignorant of Swift’s musical catalog. That said, the attention the republicans have been giving her lately has me interested enough to start listening to her music to see what the big deal is. I have found quite a few songs I enjoy and Apple Music has been suggesting more and more of her stuff that I find myself not skipping.
So, the GOP war on Swift has added at least one more person to her fanbase 🤣
It’s not my kind of music, but someone the WGA and SAG/AFTRA gave their blessings to show her concert movie during their strike because she said, “okay, I’ll give you whatever you’re asking for” is okay in my book.
Plus getting her fans to register to vote is just a good act.
I didn’t think it was but as I’ve started listening, I’m finding a lot that I actually enjoy. It started with “You Need to Calm Down”, my wife was playing it in the car and I dug the music (has a good beat, is interesting vocally, etc.). Then I listened to the lyrics and was a bit taken aback because of her apolitical reputation.
She’s got much more of an edge than I expected so Ive got a lot to explore :).
I feel the same about Taylor Swift. It’s not really my genre of music, but I like pretty much everything she does and can’t think of any song I actively dislike. My daughter’s into her, so it’s nice I can listen to music with her and legitimately enjoy it.
Same. I don’t listen to her, but my kids love her. She’s cool and aspirational. She’s a great role model.
Indeed. As is Lizzo, as long as your kids can handle a little profanity.
She’s popular because she puts out catchy pop songs. You missed out on like 13 years of bangers.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
After weeks of Republican media pundits and a former presidential candidate vilifying her, going as far as saying she’s a Defense Department psy-op, it seems all but certain Trump will jump into the fray soon as well after Rolling Stone reported one of his confidants predicted a “holy war” against the pop sensation.
If that and the aforementioned survey are correct, that means there are nearly 137 million voting-age Swift supporters situated across the US, or approximately 60% of the total number of votes cast in the 2020 presidential election for either Biden or Trump.
Sure, many of those millions of conservative fans won’t cross the aisle in retribution for sullying Swift’s name, but Biden won nine states in 2020 by less than 100,000 votes.
If just a small fraction of Swift’s Republican fans defect over such attacks, it could legitimately help Biden secure a second term in the White House.
A colleague of mine was baselessly slandered as a groomer and a pedophile, had their family doxxed, and received death threats from Swifties for the crime of simply enjoying Beyoncé’s recent tour more than Swift’s.
The Swifties’ condemnation of that opinion, as minor as it was, highlights a major reason they’re more dangerous to Trump’s reelection plans than any Democratic leader in the country: While Democrats have routinely refused to “go low” instead of “high” responding to Trump’s bullying, Swift fans have never held back and they’re not held to the same standards and in positions of power.
The original article contains 460 words, the summary contains 249 words. Saved 46%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
After weeks of Republican media pundits and a former presidential candidate vilifying her, going as far as saying she’s a Defense Department psy-op asset
Of course. Everyone is an agent of darkness. The right has this problem. They can’t say „We fight to make your lives miserable and we will fuck you and the whole nation over. It will be a complete clusterfuck”. Because that would be honest. So they have to make up enemies.
it seems all but certain Trump will jump into the fray soon after Rolling Stone reported one of his confidants predicted a “holy war” against the pop sensation.
“Holy war” sounds way cooler than what it really is. If you just could see how pathetic you really are, Donnie. And your followers are somehow even worse.
If you didn’t hear the opening riffs to Megadeth’s Rust in Peace, you’re not metal enough for this comment.
“Donald Trump and his far-right ‘holy war’ against Taylor Swift could cost him the next presidential election.”
News from a completely normal and not broken at all timeline. Imagine reading that sentence to someone 10 years ago.
10 years ago was still 2 years left in the final Obama administration. Add on just a bit more to really drive those 2014 people crazy:
“After an unsuccessful violent insurrection to stay in the White House after being voted out, Donald Trump and his far-right ‘holy war’ against Taylor Swift could cost him the next presidential election.”
We’re about 80% of the way to Idiocracy.
We’re past Idiocracy. President Camacho listened to the smartest person in the room. Trump thinks he is the smartest person in the room.
Trump knows he’s not the smartest person in the room. Trump wants to claim to be the smartest person in the room, and enjoys watching nobody correct him. That makes him feel like the most powerful person in the room. He doesn’t care who the smartest is, as long as he gets to claim it and all the credit for everything smarter people do near him.
When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.
Nitpick: He’s gone on record as saying he doesn’t hire people who he thinks is smarter than he is.
That’s part of the kink. He says that so that smart people who want to work for him will tell him they think he is smarter than they are. It’s a power move. Like the handshake thing.
After I got out of a relationship with a malignant narcissist, I realized that everything they do and say is a power move. They live in a world without objective reality. They cannot tell the truth because they function for a delusion. While you are thinking that you’re having a conversation sharing ideas, they’re observing you up and down to measure your strengths, weaknesses, social power, and threat to their social power. They listen intently to create a character they will present to you so that you enmesh with them. They run little secret experiments to learn how you react to things. Once they’ve figured you out, you’re going to have a bad time. The sad thing is that underlying all this, is that they feel deeply insecure. They confuse envy for love. The more of an asshole a malignant narcissist is, the more they’re telling the world they’re insecure because the more they want people to envy them, which means the more they need love in their delusional world. Trump is extraordinarily insecure.
That’s being generous…

I feel like that headline would be completely normal during the 80s satanic witch hunt.
I think they’d be confused about why a real estate celebrity is going after a 1 year old girl but yeah not too far off
who has ‘pop star saves democracy’ on their bingo card?
Isn’t that the plot from half a dozen 1980s movies?
Shit. Is she actually Kevin fucking Bacon‽
I feel like this was a Jem and the Holograms episode.
“Truly Outrageous!”
The difference between Swift and Trump is that Taylor understands she needs to give back to her fans, in music and performances. Trump just sees his fans as providing something for him, their money in donations and ego boosts.
After 8 years of whatever Democrats claim they’re doing, Donald Trump may have finally encountered opponents who are interested in fighting back.
I really, really want the history books to say that Taylor Swift was responsible for Trump losing by a landslide.
It’s oddly fitting for this cursed timeline
You’re right, it fits all too well. I’m not currently really a Taylor Swift fan but I would buy every album if she did that
The real plot 🤪
Yeah, Democrats think this is what fighting back looks like.
You’d prefer civil war and your own brand of fascism instead or Democracy?
You would prefer [strawman]?
If you’re going to argue with me, argue with me, not the fictional version of me you’ve constructed.
Donald Trump is by definition a demagogue and proto-fascist. Given the opportunity, and using the document the GOP drafted entitled “Project 2025”, we can see that a 2nd Trump administration would dismantle the system of checks and balances that provide equality across the 3 branches of government in favor of a unilateral (authoritarian) executive branch. So it’s not a strawman, it’s what the GOP has announced they’ll do in 2025 should Trump retake the WH.
Then maybe Democrats should actually fight against it, like I said, instead of making a huge deal about half-assed efforts.
None of that means I want Republicans to win or accomplish their goals. Now point to something else Republicans want and baselessly accuse me of wanting it too because I don’t buy your apologia for Democrats’ deliberate uselessness.
It’s 2024 and Swifties are scarier than Anonymous; Maybe it’s looking glass-ception and we need to go through more of them.
Swift/Kanye for president
Kanye has no business being anywhere near an elected office unless someone gets him back on his meds.

There’s no mental illness that makes you say Nazi shit, I think he might just be an asshole
I’m so sick and tired too of him saying that he’s bipolar. He’s 1000% self diagnosed and it does a disservice to mental health professionals and people who suffer from bipolar disorder.
Yes, self diagnosed but somehow got a doctor to medicate him for bi polar disorder, and suddenly started going off the rails when he went off his meds.
It can be both
Oh he’s definitely crazy, but it doesn’t excuse him
Of course there is. Do you think that schizophrenic people actually believe all the crazy bullshit they say during an episode?
The schizophrenia sufferers I’ve worked with seemed not to have a definite or enduring sense of what they believed, but none of them said Nazi shit. No, that was the old guy with FAS who was raised by an actual nazi.
But, they can be influenced by the people around them, and dude was hanging out with Donald Trump for a bit there.
I’m not a Kanye supporter by any means. I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally listened to his music, but I do know he’s severely mentally ill and needs to be on antipsychotics.
What a fucking stupid title - Swifties?
I am becoming less of a fan of our species… Just idiots as far as the eye can see.
As a Trekkie, I find the term ‘Swiftie’ to be cultural appropriation!
I guess you wouldn’t be happy to know that fans of MST3K are known as “Misties”
As a MSTie as well, I am very happy about that. Anyway, MST3K is all about appropriating other people’s work!
In case you don’t know, they’ve been doing a livestream of episodes on Twitch and YouTube since before Christmas, mixed with some RiffTrax and Cinematic Titanic! I’ve had it on in the background for weeks.
Thank you, I do know! I’m very active on the MST3K forums. I tune in to the livestream once in a while, but we also have group watches on Fridays which mostly scratches that itch for me… I’m just hoping Joel makes some sort of announcement about where the show is going now that the crowdfunder has failed, but he’s been quiet about it and some other Alternaversal staff seem to have left their jobs or have been fired, so I’m kind of worried. That said, 13 seasons of any show is pretty incredible.

What rock have you been living under to not know that phrase?
Out of the two of these people only one is actually a billionaire :)
That’s gotta chap his orange ass
To put that into perspective, the 2020 US Census found there are around 258.3 million adults in the country. If that and the aforementioned survey are correct, that means there are nearly 137 million voting-age Swift supporters situated across the US, or approximately 60% of the total number of votes cast in the 2020 presidential election for either Biden or Trump.
I’ve always said a third party vote is a waste.
But the vast majority of my presidential votes has been for candidates I think will be bad presidents, just a Republican would be worse.
If Tay Tay ran a third party campaign…
I’d vote for her in a heartbeat, literally every reason that’s making me vote Biden is true for her as well. She has the support to pull it off, enough that if she ran, voting for Biden would be the “throwing your vote away” choice.
Even if she literally did nothing as president, that’s better than Biden only doing some of the awful shit trump would do.
If Tay Tay ran a third party campaign
Gotta love the fame worshipping going on in this entire thread. People are fawning over one billionaire versus another.
If you’re only comparing someone to trump or Biden, most people are going to seem like the “no brainer” pick for president.
It’s what happens when Dems aim for just slightly better than Republicans’ consistent “worst candidate of all time”.
That would be an interesting constitutional test too: she’s not currently eligible to be President (but by swearing-in time she will be)
Pretty sure that’s established…
You need to be 35 to swear in, not run for the office.
I wasn’t sure.
In that case, Tay Tay for pres!
You son of a bitch, I’m in!
We have elected a movie star and a reality tv show figurehead, why not t-swift?
It’s not even much of a joke.
Like, we have to put up with Dems favoring corporations and all types of shit because “that’s what it takes to get elected”.
But Taylor doesn’t need to do that to get elected.
Her campaign could literally consist of a tweet saying:
I’m registered to run in the 2024 election
And her fans would take it from there.
The Democratic party just insists on running geriatrics that over 50% of the country hate. It’s a terrible strategy, but that’s what happens when the people coming up with the strategy are geriatrics over 50% of the country hates…
They’re just going to keep saying they’re the ones who should be in power, and since they’re a private organization we have no other choices…
A billionaire celebrity is literally the only one who can win from outside the system and has a chance to fix it.
Reason 2,763 why America’s political system is so fucked, only Tay Tay can save us
Swift’s US adult fan base … is unafraid to “go low”
The fan base is very large and in any group of that size there are going to be enough people willing to “go low” to form a mob. That doesn’t mean that the average Swift fan is more willing to “go low” than the average person who isn’t her fan. (I’m pretty sure that the average Swift fan is less willing to “go low” than the average Trump supporter.)
I doubt the average Swiftie is willing to decapitate a family member, yes
[sure, that guy is seriously mentally ill but it’s a very low bar for those people]
Taylor Swiftboating.
Everyone wants Taylor Swift to enter the political fray but I’d be a little wary if you value democracy. Swifties have a charismatic leader, are very organized, and everyone one of them likes to make five year plans and let 100 flowers bloom. We’ve seen that combination before and it got very messy for a few years.
I don’t want Swift to be an actual candidate or anything, but I am amused that Trump picked this fight.
I’m not following what you’re getting at. Are you suggesting that Taylor Swift is going to run for president?
No. I was suggesting she’s going to lead an army of Swifties and seize power after a violent civil war and become America’s version of Mao Zedong. Communist parties tend to make 5 year-plans. And when Mao came to power, he originally talked about “letting 100 flowers bloom” as a reference to allowing dissent and alternative ideas. That only lasted a couple of years before a crackdown (and then, after that, some much much worse events).
Comparing Taylor Swift to Mao.
Okay.
Don’t worry, it wasn’t a sincere comparison.
Frank Herbert has entered the chat.
I see a holy war spreading across the universe like unquenchable fire.
They call her Reverend Mother Taylor Swift
It wasn’t Bill & Ted but actually Ms. Swift that might unite and save the future. What a timeline.
