This community is experimental. It follows people on Mastodon (for now, [email protected] and [email protected]) and publishes their posts here, keeping them as the author.
This has several advantages over someone else screenshotting their posts and sharing them lemmy, including efficiency, accessibility, searchability and credit, as well as the fact that if you - as a lemmy user - comment on a post, it will go to the original author.
Note 1: As the sidebar mentions, posts and downvotes aren’t supported. In practise it means they’ll be removed / reverted.
Note 2: It’s also possible to follow people on lemmy, of course, but I sense that duplicating their posts here might get annoying
Your thoughts are welcome in the comments!
Top Tip (I’ve just discovered for myself): if you using a front-end (like Photon or Alexandrite) or a mobile app (like Voyager) that supports a ‘Cards’ view, it works well for this community. It means you can ignore the title I’ve often had to come up with, and focus on the content from the original author, and looks quite similar to how it did on Mastodon.
I’ve been undermining my own premise quite a bit, by posting stuff that’s got images or gifs attached.
There’s now a post, with the not-great title of “(microblogmemes-style post but with text rather than an a screenshot)” that’s hopefully more illustrative of what I’m on about. It’s a post that was published to Mastodon, now brought into lemmy, that’s still from the original author (rather than me) and includes the original text (so it’s smaller, searchable, accessible, etc than an image).
(need to start thinking of better titles for these type of posts though)
