I remember reading someone somewhere say years ago that to the extent debating online means anything it is for the people reading the exchange and not so much the parties debating. I never understood the hate either, I saw a lot of people trash talking hexbear a while back, but I’ve never had a bad experience with any of its members. My personal take is that most people who encounter opinionated people with a different ideology, somehow interpret a difference of opinion as a conflict.
we can be pretty abrasive but also we have some very knowledgeable and funny people. Just be willing to listen and engage in good faith.
