Hi, Connect 1.0.59 brings a new profile page, improvements to how routes are handled within the app, and a host of new settings. I hope you like it!
I’m still thinking about what a ‘new to Lemmy’ onboarding might look like. Also I know some people reported issues with the markdown editor yesterday, if this version still have issues please add a comment and I’ll try and sort them out today!
What’s new
-
Community name and user name are now direct links, with a setting to disable it.
-
Added a quick link to the official community within the app
-
Added confirmation on exit app
-
Added swiping on the left edge of home will open the drawer.
-
The drawer navigation actions should be more responsive now
-
Added an option to adjust how nested comments look. Also I added a couple presets within Settings to change it. I hope you like the presets I’ve chosen.
-
Added some improvements to the profile page. Tabs for overall/posts/comments and a page header
-
Added some haptic feedback for swipe actions
Bugfixes
- Fixed comment cards in the reply view are no longer clickable
- Fixed a three dot menu being invisible (web)
- Fixed some routing issues when creating a comment or editting a comment. Instead of the previous state being in history it should now show only the state after the change.
Also please let me know what you think of the colour palettes I’ve chosen for the comment lines. If you’re thinking of one that would be cool I’m happy to add it in :)

New icon is really ugly… Default launcher on Samsung phone.
Otherwise a really great app!
Is this on version 1.0.59 or 1.0.58? I thought I had this fixed!
Ah, it’s on .58, sorry!
Such quick updates. Thanks for adding confirmation on app exit.
The best just got even better, thanks for everything!
Minor gripes:
-
the gesture “remembers” the farthest you go no matter when you actually leave your thumb. (ie if i want to upvote a post and I go a bit too far to the right on the bookmark gesture, and go back to the upvote icon without releasing the gesture, it bookmarks the post instead of upvoting it)
-
it would be nice if the downvote action was included in these gestures, for all the beans posts ;).
-
I still have the same issue on my tablet (also reported by @[email protected]) about not all subs showing up on the left tab. Everything is fine on my phone.
-
Nice!
Frantically hitting the Check for Updates button in the Play Store.
(Dang Google, with their staged rollouts on everything…)
This is me too. Glad I’m not the only compulsive Play Store checker.
This is absolutely beautiful. Love the work done in the profile area. Top Lemmy app hands down.
Finally got the update. Some great improvements in there! Had to reconfigure my settings, but that only took about 30 seconds.
The swipe to open side menu does seem a bit glitchy, however.
It seems to open the side menu at the same time you swipe back to your home screen. Unfortunately, I just have to immediately clear it away to see my home screen.
Once you’re actually on your home screen (which is where you’d expect it to work), swiping doesn’t do anything.
Of note, I’m talking about the swipe action to the right from essentially anywhere on the screen.
If there’s a separate action I’m missing from the extreme left edge, that being overridden by Android’s own built-in back gesture.EDIT: Oops. My bad. The Android extreme edge swipe does open the menu from the home view. I’d just not been using it in favor of the swipe from anywhere.
It seems like every time I go to reply to a comment it says “could not load this comment” now. It was working before
Edit: I realized I have a request as well. Can you add
Top 12 Hours
Top 6 Hours
Top 1 Hour
. I also think it might help to limit the size of the popups when tapping the three dot buttons, some of them have like 10 items now lolFavorites are not sticking for me.
Edit: They’re staying now but there seems to be some wonkiness.
I really like this update. Thanks for making the transition over to Lemmy such a positive experience.
Could we add functionality to collapse all child comments? Also a way to set that as the default option?
Another bug I noticed. Tapping Yes here doesn’t actually exit the app.
Do you want to exit Connect?
No [Yes](No)Will be fixed in the next release! I realize I’ve never actually closed Connect…
This is the way
Aaah great update, love the new settings.
What makes me wonder, why is the function going to the community inside dot menu of the top comment and not in the top menu bar?
Should it be respecting my preference to start on the subscribed communities feed? Currently it always defaults to all.
There’s a three-dot menu on the selection for Frontpage. Select default there.
That works, thanks. But the subscribed/local/all preference is stored in your profile settings on the Lemmy instance, shouldn’t Connect follow that like the other apps?
I didn’t know they did.
Thanks for the great app.
A feature I would like is an option to open in external browser rather than only webview. If I want to share a link on at the moment it’s quite difficult
That should be possible! Settings -> open links in external browser
So it is! Missed it! Sorry
I was thrown by the separate ‘save settings’ button - all my other android apps apply and save immediately
Seconding this.
I like it so far but I can’t figure out how to collapse comment chains. Otherwise much better than gerboa for me.
Glad you’re liking things! Long press will collapse. There’s also a setting (reverse comment actions) to make comments collapse with a tap.
Those are some nice changes!
The previous history being shown after editing a comment was particularly annoying. Glad you fixed that.
Oh and since it seems like you’re working on the user experience side of things, I made a post here with some suggestions for you to consider regarding the app!
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll take a look at those suggestions
