YA novel with a movie adaptation. Never read it but from what I’ve gathered it’s basically the Hunger Games with the sorting hat from Harry Potter putting teens into social factions rather than houses.

Yes. They wanted the equivalent of human rights. The humans denied it, the robots rebelled, war began.
Robots were a slave race, wanted equal rights, got thrown into the middle east and ended up building a society and phenomenal manufacturing but humanity put in a blockade to prevent trade, the robots attempted to join the UN and got unanimously denied, then we nuked them but it had no significant impact on them, humanity unanimously approved the dark sky project to block out the sun since the robots used solar power but they found alternatives and when we attacked them they quickly made short work of us.
