Progressive politics requires a window of opportunity between when things are so bad that people fall through the cracks and things being good enough to pretend that there are no cracks.

Macron aiming to have RN in government to prove that they are bad in order to boost his chances for presidential reelection. Ended up having to cooperate in supporting a tiny right wing party along with RN meaning that his party will be equally blamed. RN can just grandstand in parliament and have the power to block legislation while being politically rehabilitated.

He can’t run for the next election, it’s already his second term.
