every time somebody starts talking about power plants i go back to the seeds of my liberal poisoning ----- sim city 2000
anyways, i choose the microwave plant so i can do really sick tricks on my deck in that massive dish
Wind. I like my power plants like I like my men: clean, petite, and it takes dozens to get the job done

Microwave because space based solar rectennas are awesome and hilarious
I didn’t really understand the pollution system that well as a kid, so I always did coal somewhere in the middle of the land (so it can distribute power evenly) to start with and then a massive field of wind power when I got to it.
I liked the design of Solar and Microwave, though.
I’m spamming thousands of wind turbines all over the place
heh. let’s see what aristotle47 says
what, do you disagree with aristotle47?
DEBATE DEBATE DEBATE DEBATE
Counterpoint: Aristotle47 is a huge nerd
Bottom center. Orbital solar is going to be the energy source of fully automated luxury gay space communism. Especially if we can’t get fusion to work (there’s no guarantee that reactor based fusion will ever be feasible, the laws of physics don’t owe it to us).
Just looked this up. Why aren’t we doing this! Get that removed elon to send the satellites off, do something useful for a change. Do that and we’ll all start calling Twitter X.
Fusion is probably achievable after you plough billions and billions of dollars into it.
No guarantee it will be clean, cheap or in any way a sensible energy source.
I like fusion so I’m gonna go with the one on the bottom left
But they’re all fusion powered. (Except maybe the middle one, and even that is arguable.)
I don’t understand stuff, but how is a windmill fusion?
Fusion powers the sun, sunlight makes earth air go zoom
I think it’s an oblique reference toward the fact that the sun is the source of nearly all available energy on earth.
So it’s also all solar power. Gotcha
I love that this game gave you so many choices of power plants, was mostly correct about their tradeoffs*, treated pollution as a thing that people actually might care about, and made room for some rando pie-in-the-sky idea with microwave power.
*Solar and wind power suck in SimCity 2000, but they legitimately were bad until the 2010s, and I can’t really fault them for failing to predict that. It also overstates the chances of nuclear meltdowns by an order of magnitude (but whatever these games overstate the chances of Godzilla attacks too), and misses the extreme variability in how good hydro power is based on the site (which would be so fiddly, and I can’t blame them, though it’s funny that the best hydro site in SC2K is a long series of rapids, which is like the opposite of what you want).
rando pie-in-the-sky idea with microwave power
China is building this with a planned solar space station beaming energy via microwave to be completed by 2035
https://spacenews.com/china-to-use-space-station-to-test-space-based-solar-power/
Whoaaaah cool.
They’re putting a pie (satellite) in the sky (orbit).
Solar looks like a giant death ray pointed up to fire at God so naturally I choose that
Just flip the polarity on that bad boy and it might blow up the Sun
Solar + Arcologies
is for Gas.
don’t forget wind power
I’m all in on that cleeeean coaaal.
Beautiful clean coal
I want to hug and kiss the handsome coal miners!
Hydro Electric = 200Mw for $4000 which is $20 per Mw.
This is more efficient than all others available at the start while also being clean.
Replace it later with Microwave when acquired because it is marginally cheaper. $17.5 per Mw
Replace it later again with Fusion at $16 per Mw.
I’m guessing hydro-electric also requires a water supply.
Yes it can only be built on waterfall tiles. This however can be landscaped by the player by simply making a hill and placing water on it.
Civil engineers HATE this One Weird Trick!

Wind Power, because I have a huge stockpile of aether crystals and a lot of faith.
Ulysses I see you XIV post sometimes, do you play?
I sure do!
Me, whenever Wuk Lamat is brought up in a local zone chat and I’m anticipating the rage:
Wuk Lamat was completely fine. The rage is just veiled transphobia because of all the extra brain rot in these times I reckon. Really sucks to see. I actually thought the DT story was quite good and a logical place for everything to go after Endwalker. The final zone is really something special I think.
Do you mind if I add you? I’m Pomme D’terre (guess what race I play) on Seraph. It’s pretty much the only video game I play anymore.
My account is paused at the moment; I was on the Aether datacenter and I intend to return in a content patch or two. Just saving money for now.

I can see some cause for complaint, but it’s nothing the chuds really focused on. A re-recording of the final main story boss fight lines to add a little more oomph may help, for example. I liked the character overall and enjoyed the “vacation” vibe of actually letting her resolve her own problems from time to time. If anything, she needed more story time to visibly grow into the role; I would have enjoyed some more training/mentoring moments on screen.
