This makes me deeply uncomfortable for reasons I can’t adequately explain. Some real uncanny valley firearms shit.
It’s bad enough just seeing such short, inefficient barrels.
It’s not about how big it is, it’s about how you use it.
These come supplied with a massive padded vest to make up for the short distance between the end of the stock and the trigger.

This actually looks pretty normal, aside from whatever abhorrence of a rifle that is on top, which looks like it’s so utterly tragic in quality that (entire history of the L85)

As an Englishman, I had no idea what the problem was. I used Google (an internet search-engine) to figure out what the post was about.
These rifles typically have the magazines loaded in the back by the stock. This is called a bullpup design. The advantages of this are to have a shorter rifle end to end while maintaining the same length barrel.
That’s what I was able to ascertain, I’m guessing it’s about accuracy in a smaller gun?
