Always good to hear your old favorites again. He’s done some great things, but it feels like investors just cart him out to make unsubstantiated claims in the last 20 years and this is coming from someone that was there for populous and dungeon keeper (I still have the original that I bought).

you know what, even though we all know he exaggerates I can’t help but feel a deep love for all of his games. I’m excited to see what he’s up-to.

Exactly he over promisis but still makes a good game. I would love a new B&W with ray tracing and generative AI for things the villagers do.

All I want him to do is figure out the rights issues and do re-releases of the Black and White games. Populus, Dungeon Keeper and Magic Carpet games. Remasters would be nice, but just get them working 16:9 on modern windows would do.

Oh, I believe him. I just seriously doubt that it is a good idea.

I remember his excitement over his revolutionary idea “you don’t have any control over the dog in this one” - which was just worse in every way.

There is somewhat similar game, where you do not have direct control of your units at all. And it is RTS. It’s name is Majesty. And especially the first game is absolutely fantastic!

Because the sequel removed something that some people complained about. The individualistic behaviour and different patterns of different hero types. Now they are all braindead.

I mean, there’s also dwarf fortress with a little bit more scope and behavior complexity

What’s with game designers going “Wouldn’t it be cool if you couldn’t control- ?”

No, it’s never cool. I’m playing a game. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be better if I can control it.

Nah, it’s an incredible idea, the actual execution just won’t turn out even close to the potential or promise.

      Direction yeah, great stuff.

Why he’s still producing his own stuff after all this time is beyond me

Absolutley. Molyneux was a visionary, a vanguard, a trailblazer.

Problem is, all that is past tense, and his last ten or fifteen years have been spent overpromising and underdelivering.

I thought the then-Project Natal demo that turned out to be largely scripted would have been the killer blow to his reputation, but fair play to him he’s still hanging in there.

Molyneux has been a snakeoil salesman for almost two decades at this point. His input is no longer valued.

You haven’t been paying attention to his recent history. He should have retired after Black & White.

I mean, the Fable series were rated pretty well, and The Movies were pretty fun. He had a good decade of pretty good stuff after Black & White, even if they weren’t as innovative as the previous decade.

It’s the FOLLOWING decade that have been worthless and he should have retired for.

If he gives everyone their money back for Godus, I’ll fully support him in the same way. Until that happens, he’s just a grifter now.

They been working on a lot of updates for Godus recently. Suddenly and out of the blue.

What if the thing that hasn’t been seen in gaming before is actually just resurrecting Godus and fulfilling all the promises like a decade later when everyone thought it was dead?

Have they? On Wikipedia I hilariously see:

The most recent update to Godus was 2 April 2015 and the last communication with 22Cans regarding the game and its Steam community was 13 May 2016. Despite many years without update or communication with 22Cans, the game is available for purchase as an early access title on Steam.

In a December 2021 interview, Molyneux stated that “we are announcing our first new set of features for Godus in almost two years and that should be coming out before Christmas.” It was not released before or after the Christmas timeframe, and nothing has been heard about the update since the interview.
