Summary

A new WalletHub poll reveals that 74% of Americans believe Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs will worsen inflation, which remains a major concern for most households.

Trump’s plan includes significant tariffs—up to 60% on Chinese goods and 20% on other imports—to protect American jobs and address issues like fentanyl production and border security.

Experts warn these tariffs could increase consumer prices, with middle-income families potentially losing $2,500 annually.

Analysts caution Trump’s plans may face political hurdles in Congress despite his economic-focused campaign promises.

And how much of that will find its way into his personal funds? So many big donations from big companies already - he’s going to milk this for all the money he can.

Not voting. If we combine harris and non voters we get a similar number to the poll. Of course that’s a major simplification, but it still has something.

I wonder if a follow up question is in order. Like do they also expect to make even more money than prices will go up.

That’s the only vaguely plausible answer I can think of. Say hypothetically they think prices will go up 20%, but they somehow think they will be getting 40% more so it’s fine and the price increase only serves to further dissuade immigrants or something.

If they actually think the retail price of stuff basically doubling won’t cause people to buy a lot less, they’re nuts.

Yup, there definitely was. You could see it in the oh so unbiased BoTh SiDeS aRe ThE sAmE coverage from supposed left wing MSM, hint: there is no left MSM as there is no left in the States, it is either right of centre or full blown right wing anger politics with empty non answers.

How’s this news? That’s literally what MAGA was selling the entire time. The so called “Temporary Hardships”. They promised and they’re going to deliver some economic hardships, that was the sales pitch and people voted for it. Anybody shocked is just not paying attention.

“could” increase consumer prices? Really? Still not sure whether they will actually increase, if tarriffs are implemented?

It won’t. His Congressional majority is completely servile, and none of them care what the American people think. Their only focus is on looting and sabotage.

Can’t wait for worker shortages to cause supply line issues. I really hope the US feels this one.

So ashamed to be an American right now, but yet I might not be one starting January. So eh.

They voted because of “woke” and immigrants. A guy on social media told them those are the real problems we face.

I can’t believe how little we are acknowledging that social media is currently being used to manipulate voters not just in US but also in Europe. Why people think that what happened in Romania didn’t also happen in US? And is not happening in other European countries?

Weird how people aren’t talking about the major shortcomings of the democratic candidate anymore. I wonder why that might be.

If Kamala was anti trans rights you’d be sitting here like “why doesnt anyone talk about trans rights anymore, those damned russians at it again”. No, it’s tablestakes that the right is awful. You’re on a left leaning platform, most people here oppose the genocide. Obviously there was going to be vocal pushback on how your candidate sucked on an issue that basic.

It was and they won! Now with Trump in office no more Palestinians will suffer! The humanitarian crisis is over, god-emperor himself said he wants Israel to “finish what they started”. He must mean that war needs to end, what other interpretation could possibly be accurate? I thank Jesus personally every night for helping the man win who wants to jack inflation right back up after it’s finally started taming. Our economy is in the right hands!

As often as people beat that drum, it’s nothing but an excuse for most. They don’t have any actual thoughts or opinions on the economy. Just voting on vibes.

Canada is on our way toward falling into that same trap.

It’s frustrating to see the right wing party so far ahead in the polls when they have nothing to offer except “We’re not that other guy”.

Yep. Fuck everyone that bothered to vote against the fascists. Fuck everyone in a blue spot in red states that voted against the other idiots around them.

Or - maybe we realize that people should actually bother to vote even if they have to vote for a candidate that doesn’t align 100% with their values.

Even if Harris won, that wouldn’t have changed anything materially with the country. There’s a deep rot in the country, and it’s just getting worse regardless of who’s winning elections.

If Trump lost in 2016 abortion would still be legal and pregnant women wouldn’t be dying of sepsis.

          You are demonstrably wrong.

And if Dems had passed single-payer instead of a Republican healthcare plan when they had a supermajority in 2010, thousands of people wouldn’t be dying from lack of adequate healthcare and people wouldn’t be cheering about a healthcare CEO getting executed in the street in 2024.

If they’d boosted the minimum wage at any point since 2009, maybe so many people wouldn’t be living in their cars or in tents on the sidewalk.

If they’d fought harder to maintain Obama’s SCOTUS nomination in early 2016 instead of “waiting until after the election,” or fought against Trump nominating someone a month before the 2020 election, abortion would still be legal.

If they actually stood for the principles that they claim to, our weapons and tax dollars wouldn’t be currently being used to turn tens of thousands of Palestinian men, women, and children into red mist.

Trump is just a symptom of the rot that I’m speaking of not the cause. It doesn’t matter if he wins an election or not because there’s a lot more like him lining up to hold office.

If that’s your response, then you have no basis to complain about abortion rights, Trump, or anything else. Everything and every injustice can be boiled down to “the world isn’t perfect,” so we might as well throw up our hands and just accept it all, right?

Only if you think slapping a coat of paint on a dilapidated house makes it livable again. Republicans want to turn the country into a dystopian nightmare, and Democrats have proven time and time again through their actions that they’re more than willing to, at worst, help it along, or at best, do nothing to stop it.

You can choose to believe the empty promises and hopium, but I don’t. A bunch of sycophants who are more preoccupied with deflecting criticism than actually wanting to fix things or hold politicians accountable aren’t going to change my mind. The 5 word responses that amount to little more than meme or bumper sticker phrases just proves that your position is indefensible.

I’d argue the person who defends abhorrent actions just because they’re being conducted by their “team” is the liar and the asshole. They’re lying to themselves about doing “good” and being an asshole by propping up these destructive politicians to the detriment of us all.

Republicans being evil doesn’t make Democrats the good guys. We don’t live in a Marvel movie.

This is not true. I don’t understand why you’re even saying this obvious both-sides propaganda after the election. Harris would not have tanked the economy like Trump’s about to. Biden recovered the damage trump did in his first term and it’s reasonable to think Harris would have continued that trend.

I agree. Let’s just hit the giant reset button, it won’t be fun, in fact it’ll be quite the opposite, but our current trajectory is no good and unsustainable anyway.
