Yo, why do they want the Caribbean? They already have P.R. and they treat it like an S.T.D. they’re ignoring.

The US invaded Dominican Republic in the 1960s, and they passed on a serious offer to acquire Cuba (sometime before Bautista and Castro).

I think the overseas territories on this map are basically everything the US held at any time, and the stuff they could conceivably have held onto.

I’m really fascinated with the way they redrew West Virginia to annex parts of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Kentucky but cede territory to Ohio and Maryland.

    Weird.

Putin is not a tankie; the dude is a literal billionaire who participated in gutting the USSR. How well did the haute bourgeosie fare under Lenin or Mao?

Perhaps he wasn’t a stalinist around the time of USSR’s deflation but he sure is like Stalin reincarnated today. And seeing as we are in lemmy, I need the feel to remind everyone that that is an extremely bad thing to be.

I’ve had multiple conversations with people here on Lemmy who seem to be under the impression that Stalin was a great dude who really just wanted to best for everyone, freedom and riches!

This is the point where you’re an extremist without knowing that you’re an extremist

Stalin was a communist revolutionary who played an integral role in the creation of the USSR. Putin is a liberal counterrevolutionary, who is partly responsible for hypercapitalist modern Russia, the two are not comparable at all.

If by “he sure is like stalin”, you mean he employs violence to maintain and consolidate power, that’s every state ever, that’s kinda how states work.

This was a map posted on a map subreddit a while ago, as a kind of alternative history/future. I can’t remember the details but I remember seeing it.

Trump’s voting base don’t have the skill to make work like this, nor apparently the imagination. What this is indicative of is that a portion Trump’s voting base is dreaming of war and conquest, and in lieu of recent comments by Trump, Trump too.

Don’t question the map, I’m sure someone with some time can find the original poster but it would have been made for some fun.

History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

There was a war in the 1800s that USA had with Mexico. We beat them so bad that they surrendered all of Mexico to us.

In the end it was decided not to accept the deal, as it would just create a new set of problems with needing to legalize the citizenry of ALL former Mexicans.

I seriously think they’re looking at the Mercator versions of these maps and are having serious size envy. Trump probably thinks Russia is massive (granted it’s twice the size of the US) and wants the US to be that big too. If he knew the size of Africa he’d probably be going after that instead.

It’s unpopular now, so they’ll float the idea of it being a joke or just rambling of a certain “leader”. That way they can gauge how many are actually accepting of the idea, and slowly tune the narrative while propagandizing it to make the message more acceptable.

And there’s the sure narratives. Canada and Mexico are cheating the US. Trade is not balanced. Etc Throw in some tariffs and blame Canada/Mexico/etc even more for the increased prices. Shift the public opinion while cutting back education and growing the narrative that America is the victim. Then when resources also get more scarce, suddenly a little “liberation” becomes an acceptable solution…

Also, remember how unpopular the second war in Iraq was. Now remember the broad popular support it had after a year. Propaganda is a hell of a drug when it’s literally EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME.

these weirdos don’t even know what’s really going on

I just like Texas getting carved up into half a dozen different mini-states for some reason. Like, who actually wants this, other than some dipshit trying to count to 100? You’d have more luck carving up Colorado, Michigan, or Pennsylvania.

A tiny bit of Mexico on that map is blue…

Maybe they just want the resorts at Cancun and Cozumel?

I’m more curious about when they decided to claim Iceland.

Edit: I guess some of Northern Mexico is blue. From what my Mexican friends tell me, that’s where their rednecks live, so I guess they’ll be more welcomed?

Deranged fascists: We need to redraw the maps of the states to make it more even, Texas should be split up.

    OK so how about California?

    Deranged fascists: …

    How about new york?

    Deranged fascists: …

    (The other 46 states)

    What bout Wyoming?

Deranged fascists: yes split it, up we’ll call it AB(raham?) And it’ll have the population of a Chicago suburb.

Is it bad that I used to say that I was jealous of the Reds mascot…Mr Met?

I was TOTALLY correctly envisioning Mr Red. I had the right mental image of the baseball head and mustache. I was just for some stupid reason calling him Mr Met.

Then one day, at a baseball game, Guardians vs Twins, I just blurt out to my friend “You’d think that Mr Met would have been the Mets mascot. I mean, the names are right there.”

And my friend tries mentally processing what I just said, couldn’t make heads or tails of it, and just says “…what?”

And I said “I’m just saying, maybe they should have named him Mr Cincy, or Mr Red. And then The Mets could have…wait, what IS The Mets mascot named?”

Now my friend is REALLY confused. He just says “Mr Met”

And I said “Yeah, he should probably be renamed. What’s The Mets mascot named?”

And he just says “MR MET”

I swear, it was like an Abbot and Costello routine. Completely organic, and with both of us confused as to what the other was saying. At least in Abbot and Costello, ONE of them knew what was going on.

They seem to be planning on invading everyone. Canada’s about to elect a far-right government of its own, and I don’t trust the Conservative Party of Canada not to go along with it, because they’ve been trying to dismantle everything that made Canada a nicer place to live than the USA for decades.
