Congrats to all the “democrats can do no wrong, so please ignore Biden’s ongoing genocide” who seriously thought they could get Arab Americans in Dearborn to vote for a man carrying out genocide against their brothers and sisters.

Sure… definitely NOTHING wrong with the democratic strategy. All of our problems are because people simply didn’t vote correctly.

I don’t think anyone was saying they could do no wrong, they were just saying if you think America’s support for Isreal was bad under the Democrates, just wait and see how much worse it’ll be under Trump. Basically anywhere an non-maga someone was critical of how the democrats were doing things, the GOP’s plans were further removed from what those particular people wanted.

So yeah, seems like they voted wrong in that case.

The problem is the Democrats told the truth about the economy. They said it was getting better slowly over time and that prices were never going to go back to what they were before Covid. People would rather hear Trump’s comfortable lies than face the uncomfortable truth.

The economy was getting better if you base “the economy” on stock values. The way politicians, especially neoliberals, measure the health of the economy is fundamentally misaligned with the experience of the average person. That’s on purpose though. They care more about the wealthy than the people.

Regular people associate “the economy” with their own subjective bubble. Regular people are dumb as fuck and the Dems shouldn’t pretend like we are a country with free education where people make collected and informed decisions.

Despite the dems prepping the macro economy to distibute wealth to workers, the workers did not feel that wealth.

It was a good economy for transitioning us to EVs, bad for affording human needs.

That would be valid if there were more than two choices. There were not. Not voting doesn’t free you from moral culpability; it makes you morally culpable for either outcome. Inaction is acceptance of the worst happening.

I hate the rules of the game just as much as you, but people who refuse to play the game (or refuse to learn its rules) are hurting everyone by helping Trump.

Not voting doesn’t tell anything to the Democrats. Not voting doesn’t say “You did bad in Palestine” because for years, not voting meant “I can’t be bothered to vote, and I don’t care who wins”.

If you have a specific message to your politicians, you have to contact them directly. Or protest. Or do something to actually get your message to them.

Someone left-wing deciding not to vote objectively helps Trump. That has nothing to do with attacking anyone, it’s an objective fact.

It is an action yes. But you presume to ascribe what it means for everyone and thats not how understanding a population of voters ideas works. You are thinking we all live in your head and we just dont.

To some it means, “I wont vote for that level of effing far right wing immorality, especially not from inside whats supposed to be a left leaning party.”

Or to others: “I wont be held hostage by DNC fuckheads so they can get whatever awful outcome they want, since they target the party being just to the left of fascism. They created and control this trolley problem nonsense.”

Or: “I dont like fascism in either party, thanks. Eff both the parties.”

And for people like yourselves it means, "I will do whatever these people tell me, including condoning war crimes and racism, so I can ‘win’ ". Thats just a reflection of who YOU are, @generalemergency. Not everyone else. And the people of your philosophical camp Lost. And maybe lost the country to fascism too. You effing lost, and now you’re here smugly lecturing as if you understand anyone, or even yourself.

It was leaderships job to read the demographics and polling and understand how to get to a win and they arrogantly didnt do that. It wouldnt even have been hard, and a win was very possible. Bidenists fundamentally misunderstood how to lead a coalition, and imperiously and arrogantly thought they could order people to vote for war crimes. Turns out that didnt work. Maybe they should have done their effing jobs instead of sniffing their own thrones.

Fascists need an “other” to demonize. They delight in the cruelty towards the “other”. The executive order gives them a sense of accomplishment, further strengthening the group bonds as they enjoy the suffering of the “other” together.

It really is as simple as “the cruelty is the point”. It helps them because they desire to inflict cruelty, and this gives them a method for doing so.

Oh I should have been more clear: Trump’s supporters delight in cruelty towards others. You’re right that Trump just does whatever makes his supporters cheer for him; he’s a textbook narcissist who craves attention. “Build the wall” for example, was a talking point his advisers gave him. He apparently thought it was stupid, but when his crowds of supporters cheered for it he went on to make it central to his campaign and identity.

And the lesson the rank-and-file never seem to learn is once the other is eliminated, the fascists always turn inward, and begin eliminating each other. Unfortunately, their death toll is always quite high once they implode – sometimes in the millions.

It’s a death cult, though, and no matter how white or pious or privileged you think you are, they will come for you once they run out of ‘proper’ enemies, because without an enemy, fascism is nothing.

It gives justification for discrimination. To make people who disagree or are affected less than human and thus atrocities against them do not count as atrocities.

No different than colonization or slavery. “We know better and will show them the error of their ways/put them in their place by force and systematic discrimination”.

Someone once asked a Republican what he thought about a shooting in a Queer bar, he responded “thats horrible, I hear a Muslim did it. Those dirty savages will never integrate with western values”.

So the person responded “oh so do you care about queer people now?”, he responded “of course not, they harm womens rights”.

So the person responded “oh so do you support womens rights now?”, he responded “of course not, I think the rights of children should take precedence”.

So he responded “oh so do you care about the children now?”, he responded “of course not, they’re leaches on society. I only support hardworking Americans”.

So he responded “Oh so do you support workers rights now?”, he responded “of course not, workers today are lazy, I support only the good religious Jewish and Christian workers”

So he responded “Oh so do you support Jewish people now?”, he responded “Of course not, I hear they’re extremely Islamaphobic”

So he responded “Oh so do you support Muslim people now?”, he responded “of course not, I hear one of them shot up a queer bar”

Edit: why was I downvoted for this?

Because it very clearly does affect trans women? So either you’re not paying attention or you’re denying trans women their womanhood. Either way, downvote.

If you missed it in the article:

The order… directs the State Department… to “ensure that official government documents, including passports and visas, reflect sex accurately,” one of the officials said.

That’s fucking terrible and possibly detrimental for the mental health of trans people.

The article quote I linked says sex. If a person is pre-op or not choosing surgery, they will forced to have the wrong gender on their docs.

I’m in Canada, your docs say what you identify as under “sex”.

If you have a passport or drivers license that says “M” and you are in a dress and full face of makeup, are you physically safe?

I have a drivers license that says “M” and have a beard. This EO (and state law) say that it should have an “F.” When I was a broke college student, and it did say “F” but I had a beard, I could barely find work scrubbing shit off bleachers with face tattooed ex cons. I had to do sex work. If I get to that point again I will just kill myself. And I did just lose my job lol.

Background checks still occasionally fuck me - I had a job let me work there for a week and then they tried not to pay me because the background check revealed I was trans. I spent months fighting for money, because I was ducking desperate, because I was going through a divorce where I was getting fucked for being a crazy tranny there too.

Documentation fucking matters. This is how they are trying to kill us.

Even setting aside people’s gender identity, 1.7% of the population is intersex. A law can’t make that untrue.

Awfully reminiscent of the trouble the NASDAP had trying to draw the line between Jews and non-Jews. It made them look like fucking idiots, and I hope to hell history treats the GOP the same way.

The term is “intersex” (which covers a broad range of sex variation including “true hermaphroditism” though the term hermaphrodite is considered offensive when applied to a human). Typically intersex people are assigned either male or female at birth. If they are born with ambiguous genitalia, they are given surgery as infants to make them match their assigned sex (which has many negative side effects such as scarring, sterility, pain during urination/sex, and gender dysphoria). They may also be forced onto hormones to make them go through the “correct” puberty. Conservatives are generally in support of this practice, and laws that have been passed against trans healthcare have contained exceptions to allow for nonconsensual procedures on intersex children

What happened to conservatives? What happened to “my rights end where yours begin”. This shit is asinine, absolute trash.

The trans folks I know are the most joyful, positive people I know. They do not deserve to be stripped of their joy and identity. The next 2 years I suspect will be a long, hard road.

      The next 2 years

Lol. It’s gonna be a lot longer than that. We’re entering a period of American decline that will likely last for a generation. Remember, the majority of voting Americans voted for this. That problem doesn’t just go away.

Reminds me of some state laws that have been voted for, and sometimes even enacted, that defined PI as three (or worse, even 4). Just because an uneducated jokel in the White House signed a piece of paper, scientific reality won’t just bend to his wishes.

What’s next? Will he declare Ohms law illegal? Forbid gravity?

Please, anyone who reads this, stop posting links to the mobile version of Wikipedia. It doesn’t switch automatically on PC, and I see it happen all the time. Just take the half a second to remove the “.m” from the beginning of the link, save everyone else from the pain of having to be surprised by it and taking the time to do it themselves.

Ignoring the content of the link, and following this passive and erroneous line of discussion: I did it on a phone, not on a PC where you on the PC can more easily change it. Not going to be scolded because I strictly didn’t follow your arbitrary rules.

I only complain because I see it happen a lot, and because Wikipedia automatically corrects links for mobile users but not desktop ones. It’s not intended to be scolding, just a request for you to be more aware of such things.

Then request Wikipedia change their web design for bifurcating mobile users into a subdomain. The CSS is detecting the browser implementation anyways, so do it all on the backend in one single domain.

Sue when you must, support businesses, organizations, and politicians you agree with financially, vote in every election, don’t add to any problem, and ignore Trump and his minions to the best extent you can.

assess what type of DEI programs are still discriminating against Americans

The official said it was “very fitting” that the order was announced on Martin Luther King Jr. Day because “this is order is meant to return to the promise and the hope, captured by civil rights champions, that one day all Americans can be treated on the basis of their character, not by the color of their skin.”

I don’t think I can handle four more years of this brain bending insanity. I’ve tried to understand where people are coming from. I’ve been of the belief that most of us are good people and want the same things. But trying to unpack the thoughts and whims of POTUS on a daily basis is just going to break my brain. I work at a computer all day so I’m not sure how I’m going to prevent myself from encountering this circus. I’m weighing the choice of living in blissful ignorance or in utter despair.

For over eight yers, my heart has hurt because of the sheer stupidity and ignorance taking control of this country. I am not seeing any signs of improvement. On the contrary, it seems very apparent that it’s getting worse.
