Summary

Supporters of Donald Trump gathered outside Washington, DC’s Central Detention Facility to celebrate the release of January 6 prisoners following Trump’s sweeping pardons on his first day in office.

Trump issued “full, complete and unconditional” pardons for 1,500 individuals involved in the Capitol attack, including far-right leaders Stewart Rhodes and Enrique Tarrio, whose sentences were commuted.

The release sparked emotional reactions from families and supporters, though critics condemned the move, noting the violent acts committed by some of those pardoned.

The pardons have drawn widespread outrage from lawmakers.

January 6th rioters are terrorists who tried their very hardest to stab America in the heart.

It is very important to make sure we all include this central fact whenever we speak about the issue, as a general note. It should be repeated so much that people hear it in their heads as an echo whenever they think about the subject, because it is the truth.

They were safer in prison. Just release their names and addresses and let freedom do it’s job

Disgusting that this happened, let alone that people are cheering this on. I feel terrible for the police officers that were assaulted that day defending the capitol, only for their assaulters to be celebrated when they were pardoned.

I hope each one chokes on a cheeseberder. I hope it is excruciating. I hope it is recorded so we can add a laugh track.

Well, they’ve already got underlying militia organizations like the proud boys, oath keepers, and three percenters. I’m guessing this is the end of the stand by stage and the beginning of your right wing death squads.

There are no consequences for being white pieces of traitorous garbage in America. Jay walk as a person of color and you’re getting 20 years in jail.

I don’t doubt that he was capable of such a thing but I have no recollection of that from the history I’ve read and a search online and skim of his Wikipedia page isn’t providing anything to back that up either. Do you have a source or specifics I can search up to confirm your claim?

Wikipedia is just full of arrests and deaths, not pardons.

It makes it easier to convince friends of the Trump/Hitler parallels if I can back it up with sources.

It’s amazing to me how so many in the US aren’t bothered about traitors who tried to overthrow their government. Shows how bad things have gotten; presumably enough Trump supporters don’t care or somehow believe it was justified!?

From outside, it honestly seems the US is slowly sliding further and further into chaos.
