I’m hoping for a mobile phone but based on the hints I think it will be a mobile gaming device

    My interpretation of the emojis:

    • Colorwheel + Yoga = Convertible laptop with pen/drawing support
    • Lighting = Fast
    • Controller/Cheetos = Suitable for gaming

Sounds like a best of all worlds, I’m curious :)

An alternative to the Surface Pro that easily runs Linux would be great - especially if more powerful than the StarLite

      Touchscreen? Great!

UHD though? In such a small form factor, it sounds like a needless battery drain. Or are there use cases I’m missing?

Oh I could likely see the difference. But if there’s a significant impact on battery life, I would probably be just fine with the lower resolution.

It would suck if the touchscreen option were only available with a 4K resolution because of that.

Touchscreen is the only thing keeping me from a framework (though it would take some time to work up the cash if they announced it)

This has been the main thing holding me back from purchasing a framework laptop

Does framework try to use open source silicon where it can? Are schematics available for the CPU (or other chips)? Or is that not their thing?

It was many months between announcement and release of their previous hardware. How soon do you need a laptop?

I just got a Framework 16 about a year ago, and I’m not worried. I LOVE my fw, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. But I think the other commenters have the right of it, they’re probably leaning into either a tablet or a handheld game console.

They’re probably not releasing a whole new model of laptop, and if they are, it’s probably a specialty design, like a steam deck or a surface as other’s have speculated.

If it’s new components, you can probably drop them in if they interest you.

I don’t think it’s a company that does overnight revolutions & disruptions (we are all used to consumerism too much), it’s about sustainability.

They are doing a lot and in the right way imho.

I would love a tablet and a phone (at some point) tho, even an open sauce wearable would be qewl :D.

I can’t imagine they’d release a new chassis unless it was something radically different to their existing form factors, and even then, it would have to be a fairly big market sector, since they’re not really big enough to target anything niche.

Replacing an existing chassis would require that they continue developing and releasing new upgrades for the existing chassis in addition to the new one, or make all the internal parts interchangeable with one of the existing chassis, both options seems like an R&D nightmare for such a relatively small company. If they just dropped upgrading the existing chassis… well… that would kind of be counter to their ethos.
