Putting the word “porn” in community titles for anything involving photography or gfx. It’s immature and unnecessarily crude. I think it’s too late though.

I’ve seen this said before, actually. I agree, and I think some people will give me funny looks when they see me at cableporn (really neat cables) or something like that.

Dubious and disagree downvotes. But that’s always been here already. That became pretty clear to me pretty fast.

        Content curation.

I upvote or leave neutral opinions and arguments I disagree with if they’re well argued or otherwise contribute to discussion and strengthen respectful discourse.

I don’t know how you feel when your posts get sum-negative scores, but it makes me feel rejected and makes me not want to participate. I receive it as a social indicator. I see it as something that leads us towards echo chambers.

Yeah, I try to do this as well. I may not agree, but if they’re making an attempt at good faith argument and are holding a position that is not objectively wrong I’ll upvote or at least not downvote. I’ll always upvote someone who appears to accept that they might not have the higher ground. People still voteshame when someone tries to admit reconsidering a position, it sucks because that’a a disincentive to learning. It’s far too easy to emotionally knee-jerk downvote someone just because you don’t like what they said.

Of course, this is pretty subjective…someone can be right and a complete ass and get a downvote or you might disagree for reasons other than the presented info, but so far Lemmy users seem far more inclined to moderate downvotes or at least tolerate some opinions and dish back with rebuttals rather than just mashing downvotes.

Karma and comment requirements to participate in communities. Plus how hard it is for your submission to actually be approved.

This one is inevitable but people going through your whole comment history when arguing with you.

Just commenting ‘this’ to show an agreement.

        Just commenting “This”.

Yea, I should have been clearer.

It’s weird, not once have I wanted to comment “this” on Lemmy. But I did it all the time on Reddit. Maybe because I felt a disconnect between voting (rewarding a comment that contributed) and agreeing with the comment.

Maybe the comments on Lemmy are not so knee-jerk and numerous that there’s not a reason to simply show agreement.

“Leopard-face” replies masquerading as a substantive comment that adds something to the discussion.

It’s really no better than: “This”

don’t know why I was downvoted

I’m convinced there are people out there that just downvote everything. They get some kind of chemical release in their brains when they hit the downvote button. You could say “being happy feels good” and someone out there will downvote it.

I think it’s fat fingering then others dont think for themselves and just go with whatever it already is.
Feels awful when you had a creative comment but just didn’t spell it out well enough and it gets like 3 downvotes 🥲

like noo I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I just like falling asleep to technical videos and that’s a compliment coming from me 😭😭

A feature that’s carried over from reddit is utterly random downvotes sometimes

The only way to stop that is to remove the downvote button.

People will always fat-finger or vote based on emotion.
