Why am I paying for a subscription for an app that hasn’t been updated in a year? When are we going to get an update?

There was a post within the last few weeks where someone had some brief conversation with him (external to Lemmy); think he’s just busy with life.

FYI the exclamation point is how you link to a community, if you want to ping someone you use an @ instead, like so:

Hey, @[email protected] Sync is going to need an update soon to keep up with new Lemmy versions.

I just cancelled my subscription. Unfortunate that he couldn’t do more after so many people supported him during the API debacle.

Me too… I’ve been using Sync since 2014 and it’s sad to see it in this state. I appreciate the developer for what he’s done but it just makes no sense to be paying for something that’s continuously broken with fixes being irregular and uncertain. I’ll be moving on when my annual sub runs out.

It’s one of those things that worked better on reddit because they didn’t make huge changes often. So a developer could just update infrequently and it not matter. Slide, my favorite reddit app, hadn’t had an update in years when spez fucked things, and it was functional enough if you didn’t try to mod on it.

Lemmy though, you kinda need to at least try and do two updates a year to keep up with things.

So far, sync is still fine for casual scrolling and talking, so it isn’t huge that it’s behind, but it eventually will be.

Oh man, I loved Slide! It was my go to reddit app for years.

Unfortunately it got so broken I ended up on Sync.

Yeah, if they hadn’t broken all of the apps, I would have too. I was using sync as a backup anyway, and was thinking about just switching.

Didn’t the dev also go MIA for long periods of time during the Reddit era?

I’m holding out hope that they will be back when/before Lemmy 1.0 breaks the app.

      I remember that too.

Yeah, I’m still using the app and trying to hold out till it’s completely borked. Once it becomes too broken, I’ll end up having to move on.
