Lemmy’s default sort is “Active”, which means that the most active threads will stay at the top of the frontpage, which can make the same few threads stay for ages. It does give the impression that lemmy is more active though.

i usually do hot / subscribed and if I run dry, i do all

and if that runs dry, i do scales… sometimes I will try other stuff but that’s usually good enough

Active is the worst one I have no idea why it’s the default.

I’m a fan of “Top six hour” it refreshes often enough to see intersting tidbits throughout the day but not so much that I’m checking every twenty minutes!

Or, if on mbin, do that in reverse (at least in my case; hot stays stagnant but active is always changing).

Also if you don’t want to manually switch it all the time, go into your account settings and change the sort type to whatever you prefer. Similar should apply in apps, with a bonus: some apps will let you change default comment sort setting as well.

Personally, I like “Scaled” and “Hot” the most, but I also check “New” to discover communities that may otherwise get lost (and, to ban spam/bot/troll accounts along the way as well) - and lastly, I also have a look at “Top/Day” at least once a day, to see what’s the “talk of the town”.

It definitely feels like we had some growth in proper, organic activity. Just a few months ago, it definitely felt like “Top/12hrs” was the best one for the amount of content that was being posted. But for a while now, “Hot” and “Scaled” feel much better than that one.

Scaled gives me some super niche posts with two or three upvotes sandwiched between the same posts I see when I sort by active, which is not always bad but not necessarily what I want either. If I feel like I need content I go for new or top 6/12/24 hr.

It indeed is often the same 5 - 8 posts because everything else gets hidden by politics word filters.
