Thousands of demonstrators rallied at hundreds of events on Saturday (…)

Thousands? Were there just 100 protestors at 100 events? That would be already 10,000…WTF…

Edit: If this is true (thousands in Portland alone) - and why wouldn’t it be - it’s a massive understatement by the New York Times…and this is prolly one of the few more or less independent/somewhat objective outlets left. C’mon…

    /50501 here and on reddit.

Why would the news, controlled and operated by oligarchs, give people protesting oligarchs any coverage?

After the big one I think around early or mid-March, I remember seeing it on the front page of CNN the next morning. It was buried in a lower part later I’m the day, but it was at least front and center the morning after the protests.

Even Fox has covered them a lot. I’ve seen this all spring. They aren’t completely ignoring this.

To be fair, I don’t consume mainstream media whatsoever anymore. After reading Manufacturing Consent, I see no point. I get all my news from socials or alt news sources like Democracy Now!, counter punch, it’s going down, and Mother Jones, etc …

Do you think reddit is immune to the oligarchs? I don’t think so at all.

Edit: What I’m saying is: post here rather than on reddit. There are no current updates in the Lemmy community. And I’m assuming that the discussion is taking place on reddit because everyone is somehow still there. Why is that? Why is everyone still there when it’s clear as day that reddit is so rotten that Aaron Swartz would roll over in his grave if he had to witness that.

Just another question, where would you ideally like to see protest news posted on lemmy? Yes there’s the 50501 community, I also post on DSA community. Where else?

Well no, but the question was why is there no mainstream media coverage.

I’ve posted a couple things here on lemmy. Let’s be honest though, the reach of reddit is orders of magnitude higher than here

There’s a protest scheduled for today in Fresno. I’d be there right now if I had gas money or a ride. Only learned about it on Thursday; didn’t have time to plan anything. 😮‍💨

Those reading, check in with your friends and family, not just so they know about it, but to help each other with transportation!

I was listening to the radio and they mentioned it so I don’t think it’s radio silence, but it also wasn’t covered in depth either.

This trend of non-coverage will probably continue if we don’t think of something different. I for one rarely go to my downtown area so it could be easy for regular people at least to miss what’s happened.

It’s a little more on the dangerous side but I had an idea of a “stop in” rather than a “sit in”. Basically we pick a day and time and no matter where you are, you just come to a stop for one minute, not speaking or making noise, just being still. It’s something people can do anywhere and only takes a minute of your time, but if enough people do it then it would look kind of crazy, like something from a sci-fi movie. There’s like no way this would go uncovered or at least unGoogled.
