Villains rarely see themselves as villains. The worst of them strongly believe that they are the good guys.

This is also missing the comment where in none of those movies was the richest man in the world a good guy.

Entirely seriously, I have been listening to many right wing Star Wars fans, since the 90s, make very serious arguments that the Empire were actually the good guys, that Agent Smith from the Matrix is actually a good guy just doing his job.

Also relevant to this: For a long while, Elon used JC Denton, the protagonist from Deus Ex, as his avatar on Twitter…

Somefuckinghow, entirely not realizing that he bears much, much more similarity to the main villain of Deus Ex, the uberwealthy deepstate oligarch Bob Page … who … concocts a false reality, regarding a pandemic, to mask the fact that he is covertly meeting with and buying influence of other prominent business people and politicians… all while also heavily investing in advancing AI tech, which he wants to proliferate everywhere.

Like 15 years ago, Elon was a major AI skeptic, considering its development potentially extremely dangerous.

Then he realized he could make money if he got AI (self driving cars) working, and just did a fucking 180.

Oh right Bob Page also pour gabillions of dollars into genetic research to grow the perfect super soldiers (JC and Paul Denton)… meanwhile Elon has … basically an artificial insemination/breeding kink that also almost certainly involves some kind of artificial genetic selection or manipulation during pregnancy, as … waaay too many of his kids come out AMAB compared to what you’d expect from the baseline of not doing that.

I have said this before: If you were to ask Elon to summarize his life story, he would tell you his whole life is basically a gigantic ‘revenge of the nerd’ plot.

    He is the uber-incel.

I do genuienly believe he has Aspbergers (so now we’d say he is on the ASD spectrum) given how … just astoundingly socially awkward he is, goes ham into his hyperfixations (with billions and billions of dollars), is really, really bad at understanding and regulating his own emotions…

I am autistic as well and he is like me at 14 years old, just never actually grew up in terms of taking the time and therapy/counseling to learn how to interface better with neurotypical social norms, understand and accept yourself and how you are different…

Instead, he just wants people to think he’s cool, because he never fundamentally learned that… you gotta accept and love and define yourself first man, worry about what other people think about you second, you don’t and shouldn’t need to be loved or worshipped by everyone … you should be able to validate yourself.

On that level, it is so fucking sad and pathetic.

Reminds me of the line from a Metric song: All the gold and the guns in the world couldn’t get you off.

On another level: This man is a comic book supervillain evil CEO, and needs to be fucking put down or locked away before he just actually kills millions of people, either basically directly, or through astounding incompetence.

Sometime I wonder who elon is posting as now. He’s clearly addicted to it and we know he makes alts and impersonates people. Absolutely crazy this guy gets to run countries and run businesses. I feel like if there is no internet elons the creepy dude in the camero sitting outside the concert waiting for teenage girls to come out so he can give them drugs and try to date rape them.

If the 4chan posts that are purported to be Elon… actually are…

His latest persona is literally the AntiChrist.

… Normally a person like that ends up in an involuntary hold in a psych ward.

Hunger Games - Resist oligarchy, enslavement and groteque forms of capital punishment for ancestral “crimes”.

Star Wars - Resist the fascist space dictator and the military industrial complex.

The Matrix - Resist authoritarian control, the obfuscation of reality, lack of bodily autonomy, and literal farming of our organs.

Divergent - Resist… cliques, I guess? I’m gonna be honest, everything I know about this series seems dumb to me. Maybe someone more informed and 10 years younger can make a better case than me here…

V for Vendetta - Resist actual factual old school fascists/Nazis, war crimes, concentration camps, human experimentation, total media control, punishment without due process.

Notice how none of these are “Resist governments that make me pay a progressive tax that limits the burden on lower income earners, that regulate industries to ensure worker, public and environmental safety, that seek to limit the influence money plays in our elections so that our representative democracy remains representative of everyone, not just the rich?” Because the shit you are resisting is the good shit, you dumb manchild fuck. It’s not the fucking same.

Divergent definitely doesn’t belong in that list. It’s like listing The Beatles next to The Monkeys; in regards to it being clearly derivative of the hunger games and the only real thing they have in common is they both made money.

The hunger games gets to stay only because v for vendetta pales in comparison when it comes to cultural relevance.

I realized just how dense this motherfucker is when he said his favourite book is the Player of Games which as an aside presents Fully Automated Luxury Gay Communism as the superior system (which Musk clearly bypassed or more likely never read). He just literally always identifies with the resistance movements without a hint of introspection or deeper thought because of his main character syndrome.

Musk does a better job at disputing the lie of capitalist “meritocracy” than most anti-capitalist critics ever could.

Agree here. I feel like Elon Musk and his ilk shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy any of Iain Banks’s works, since they are ideologically so opposed to everything he’s demonstrated himself to be in favour of. But really I’m probably making excuses for myself – I just don’t like it when people I think are c***s enjoy things that I enjoy, whilst remaining c***s

Did you intend to write “c****s,” but the markup put your comment in italics/bold instead?

Formatting tip - if you put a backslash “ \ “ before the asterisk, it ignores the normal command to italicize/embolden. The markup commands on Lemmy are similar to those on Reddit (though not identical; Lemmy doesn’t break links as often as Reddit does.)

I never told CEOs were better people or anything but I thought that they were somewhat competent. You might not be the smartest but there has to be some abilities, right?

Elon made me realize how silly I was. Money. Money is all difference. There might be smart CEOs but certainly there are very very dumb ones.

America is literally the Galactic Empire. The Matrix is literally capitalism. The capitol is literally America/Capitalism. I didnt watch the others.

Yeah, no. The Galactic Empire brought order to the galaxy (and a little bit of mass murder). The US has done far worse, and any good we were doing like USAID is being reversed by our small pp energy dictator.

The OG Star Wars is literally an allegory for the Vietnam War where the Vietcong are the rebels, with sci-fi nazi aesthetics (and space wizards). The USA is quite literally the Galactic Empire in that metaphor.

My kin here really tryin claim the Galactic Empire is worse than the USA?

Dont get me wrong, America has been committing crimes against their own and foreign people and holds a firm exploitative grip on the earth. But the Empire destroys planets, actively (not conveniently) exterminates people and enslaves them. They wipe out religions, and are an outright dictatorship for 20 years.

absolutely batshit crazy levels of delusion.

does the richest man in the world think… the “resistance” is… tech billionaires?

does he believe the group recklessly wielding sweeping executive powers, directing raids of homes and schools, imprisoning, threatening, black bag kidnapping dissenters off the street, and deploying the military to the borders… that they are the resistance?!

i know playing the victim is a standard gaslighting fascist rhetorical maneuver… but if he really thinks of himself as a “rebel” outsider. god help us. this man’s continued metabolic equilibrium puts us all in grave danger.

No one believes themselves to be villains. Hollywood has ruined everybody with their black and white delineations between “good” and “evil”. And of course, we as a whole have eaten up the lie; Musk claiming to be the resistance - in my eyes - proves this.

To be fair, one of the points of the Hunger Games was that the rebels were just as bad as the Capitol. Maybe that’s the resistance he identifies with.
