And of course, this is all about people pushing zionist land theft. If they arent busy beating students, buying politicians, and threatening universities, they are trying to literally rewrite history and limit everyones access to information they dont agree with. And they somehow think there will never be any blowback for any of this behavior. They really do literally think we are all sheep.

AFAIK other language Wikipedias already are incorporated “elsewhere” (the world¹).

¹ there actually is one outside the US

Some of the contentions in Martin’s letter echoed a report published in March by the Anti-Defamation League, a leading Jewish civil rights organisation, alleging “widespread anti-semitic and anti-Israel bias on Wikipedia”.

What a fucking surprise 🙄 Facts are antisemitic now.

      Anti-Israel, anti-fascist, anti-apartheid, pro-Palestine != anti-semitic.

The ADL can go fuck themselves for propagating otherwise.

No surprise there - Republicans have hated Wikipedia pretty much from the start, since they require valid attribution and constantly fact check, which means the Republicans can’t spin their lies.

Fortunately whatever happens, wiki is downloaded all over the world. If they try to “regulate” or shut it down, it will just pop up abroad.

You cannot suppress open source info.

The tricky bit is that Wikipedia is a “living” document, constantly being updated and refined by a huge community of dedicated editors, and you can’t download the community and pop up a new one overnight. AI isn’t that good yet.

Then you just move the domain to one of their many subsidiaries abroad. The Community will be smart enough to access another Wikipedia tld

Assuming that there’s just one single new site that pops up that everyone agrees to go to en masse, and that it has enough resources to handle the load, and that its administration is aligned with the same goals as the original.

It could happen, but it’s by no means as simple and easy as cloning a repository.

They’d still use the top level domain, just change the physical server location and point there. Canada, maybe.

You’re still making the assumption that “they” are the same people. That’s the point here, Wikipedia-the-organization is being threatened.

And you’re missing the larger point:

Paranoia is bad. If you jump at every “they could do…” you’re going to be unable to jump at the “they fucking are doing”.

You want something to freak out about? They’re arresting judges for managing their courtroom.

Yeah, threatening to yeet wiki’s nonprofit status is bad. But its a very far cry from offing the board or whoever is leading Wikipedia and installing their own.

This rampant paranoia is not helping the 2yo that got deported.

They can move the website out of the government’s reach, in response to any action they might take. Worrying about any other possibility is just jumping at shadows.

Problem with that is the domain is registered in the US. And the FBI has a history of claiming domains whose content the US government wants offline.

    Wikipedia is indeed propaganda.
It can and is being manipulated, this has been proven plenty times.
And people often link to it as their source.
    It has zero credibility.
It’s good for looking up flowers, food or whatever.
    Anything remotely political is tainted.

Show me the exact article that is propaganda, and why

Obviously you’ll have to add citations on your end to show why exactly it would be propaganda and oh yeah, there is the issue

Wikipedia isn’t bad because it’s propaganda, Wikipedia is bad because it’s not propaganda

I found a thread with 10 reasons not to trust Wikipedia. One of the reasons listed is citogenesis. Under that they write 3 paragraphs in which they first say most people don’t know what citogensis is. In the remainder of the 3 paragraphs they never explain what it is. I cant tell if that is a parody site or not.

You can cherrypick all you want and ignore the massive amount of facts and incidents that prove Wikipedia is controled garbage.
Keep your head in the sand and don’t be sceptical then.
Enjoy being misinformed and manipulated if that’s what you want.

Can you link to these facts? I admit I have no doubt in my mind the website is at best a parody and at worst bullshit. But I feel I’m open minded enough that I’ll take a look at any facts you have to present. I tried to take a look for myself but everything I found on that sight seems like old man yelling at clouds.

Also I’m curious as to what you mean when you say I can cherrypick all I want? What is that in reference to?

I spent 10 minutes perusing that site too and came to a similar conclusion. It’s gotta either be parody or hate mongering. It kinda reads like a teenager who made bad edits to Wikipedia, got banned from editing and then made it their life’s work to hate Wikipedia.

That 10 reasons post was so silly, complaining about the need to check sources and verify data while providing no sources and spouting clearly skewed beliefs.

Why do that when they can lie through their teeth to just get it shut down altogether?

Remember: “‘Meet me in the middle,’ says the unjust man. You take a step forward, he takes a step back. ‘Meet me in the middle,’ says the unjust man.”

There is no arguing sense and logic with these people. Their goal is to make you suffer. Nothing else.

Show me the exact article that is propaganda, and why

Here’s Pulitzer prize winning journalist Glenn Greenwald giving you a few examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKwAJG1O8fE

Here’s Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger arguing why Wikipedia is the “Most Biased Encyclopedia in History": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR6dO8U8okk

However, there is no reason to trust that the Trump administration has any good intentions behind their current attack on Wikipedia. My suspicion is that they want even more control and propaganda - just in their favor.
