    I will always turn off the sound of the GPS when using it, I just want a map to glance at, not a device ordering me around

      Except sometimes it pays off massively.

      I had accidentally left the voice on for some reason, back when Google Maps’ navigation was fairly new here in New Zealand. Back then it wasn’t the easiest thing to turn off without pulling over and stabbing a bunch of buttons, so I left it.

      Approaching a large intersection, it seemed it was taking the words on the street signs somewhat literally, as it told me

      Signs for State Highway one-half

      Indeed, the sign did appear to read “SH1/2”.

    Is the computer/robot able to freely decide when/if to speak?

    No = you should direct your attention to your fellow “divine” beings who programmed them

    Yes = fuck you

    I really want to jam a pick tool into gas station pump speakers that blare ads.

    I probably will if the oldest shell station that never updates their pumps does.

    I was onboard until I saw the “divine being” and “holy tongue” bits. I’m a technophobe, not a religious nutter.
