That’s exactly how I feel. Years from now, the articles of impeachment will exist, along with the Republicans inactivity. Not that it will mean anything if we are all dead, but at least there was an attempt.

The Democrats in office can’t do shit. There are not enough of them. Democrats cannot filibuster the president’s appointments because they themselves removed the filibuster rule on appointments below the level of the Supreme Court back in 2013. They could use the filibuster on some bills, but you’d have to get all of the dems to vote in lock-step like the republicans do. Good luck with that considering how many democrats are only democrats in name so they could get elected in their districts and then they vote with the republicans more often than not.
If you want change, you need to convince the republicans in office that they are going to lose their jobs. They do not support Trump because they necessarily agree with him, they do it because, as Murkowski has publicly admitted, they are afraid of him. We voters need to rally, make noise, and make them afraid of us. There are not enough MAGA voters to keep the republicans in office if enough of the rest of us actually show up to vote. We voters need to convince them that they will be out of their cushy jobs if they don’t stop this lunatic.
That’s why they need to be thinking long-term, not reactionary. They need to be looking inward and ousting the ghouls in their leadership. Find actual progressive issues that the majority of people want. Focus on winning the midterms and taking away the majority from the republicans.
Instead, it sounds like they’ve learned nothing. They refuse to look inward and want to appeal to their big donors. Continuing to embrace the same moderate policies that lost the presidency, the house, and the senate. They refuse to acknowledge the big tent item that binds the majority of us. The owner class is fucking over the labor class.

His slathering hordes are something to be reasonably afraid of. Also, he did nearly manage to overthrow our government and did manage to get himself reelected four years later. He may be more effective that you think.

This isn’t doing something. This is just signaling. They know along with everyone else that it will fail. This is pretending to do something in order to seem like you’re doing something.

Don’t keep voting to approve his nominees, for one. Put a hold on each and every one of them. Vote against all of the laws the republicans are putting through congress. Filibuster everything. Basically, act like the republicans have since 1992.
They could start with that.
Most of that still won’t do anything because they don’t have the numbers (like articles of impeachment). The house needs 4 Republicans to go against the pack to hit 50%.
I’m not saying it’s not worth doing, but FlexibleToast was saying that all of that is posturing and won’t accomplish anything.
The answer is that Democrats can’t directly do anything, which was what the person you responded to was alluding to.
Honestly, I don’t even think it’s posturing. I fully expect that not even every democrat would vote for this impeachment. With Maga Mike Johnson as the leader, it won’t even make it to the floor. It’s less than posturing. It’s pointless, and it’s just to grab the headline like this. An impeachment of a president has historically resulted in exactly 0 convictions. Trump brags about being vilified, it’s just feeding into his narrative.
Their efforts would be far better spent finding better candidates and embracing progressive ideas that would actually win. Go canvas for what those policies are and figure out your messaging. Figure out how to win and take some power back instead of these powerless moves. If they keep just attacking Trump, they’ll just keep entrenching the people that voted for him. It will validate the voters’ belief that the democrats don’t have their own path forward that will better their lives.
And what legal alternatives do they have? Or what are you suggesting Democrats in the Senate / House do?

Then, Elon outspent the other candidate in the Wyoming supreme court election like 10:1 and still lost. There’s talk his involvement hurt more than helped. The very next day Trump said Elon has to go back to his businesses soon
No member of Congress can go out in public without being screamed at to do something. Historically conservative districts are flipping in special elections. Musk’s money is useless, Trump’s endorsement means less by the day, and even the oligarchs are getting nervous about Trump
Very few politicians are actually loyal to Trump, most are in it for themselves. There’s reason for some hope… The pressure is already high. Imagine how bad it’ll be in a few weeks, when people start seeing supply chain shortages on the shelves…

Keep doing it anyway. Every single time they commit a crime, fight to get every last Republican congressmen on the record supporting every last crime this administration ever committed. At the very least so that history remembers: this was never just one man.
And so those people can be strung up together with their dear leader.
Assuming all democrats in the House vote to impeach, it will take 4 republicans joining them to reach the 50% threshold to succeed. That could honestly be doable. The Senate is another story. It would take 20 republicans to vote with all the democrats and independents to reach the 67% needed to convict. Not impossible, but a profoundly uphill battle.
Call your reps, protest, make noise. As long as the republicans think that Trump’s hordes will keep them in office for supporting him, they won’t cave. If we can convince them that the MAGA loons will not be enough to get them reelected and keep their cushy jobs, they’ll flip. They are not loyal to Trump, they are afraid of him.
The problem is, in what way would all the senators be threatened if they don’t vote against?
Because I guarantee that trump’s administration has dirt on every single one of them.

Well, the last two times the Dems controlled the house. So this won’t even get off the ground.
It’s possible for it to make it through the house, but the Senate definitely won’t remove him.
