    Following the trial.

    Who here has gone mushrooming?

I and friends used to pick mushrooms all the time. Just field mushrooms. We knew the big yellow mushies in the pine forests were edible but we weren’t confident to pick them. Some local Italians used to.

Yes. Still do when I can. However, the big white ones that spring up in people’s lawns have 2 different sorts - one is edible & delicious. The other sort looks identical, but if you lightly score the white top with a fingernail and the mark turns yellow, they may give you a tummyache but won’t kill you. The yellow staining ones have a mild toxin that really upsets some people’s stomachs, but doesn’t affect others. I know a few spots that are reliable for goldtops too, but don’t always get there before the locals.

Same! As kids we used to collect them from the horse paddock nearby, and only the ones with pink or brown underneath. We never got the ones that were any different to that. Very glad I didn’t accidentally poison the whole family, though.

There are currently big yellow ones in my front yard which the snails or slugs seem to love

I know someone who runs foraging courses, including mushrooming. There is a rhyme to help remember what to avoid. Of course I can’t recall the whole thing right now.

I used to like looking at them on walks but never dared to pick any for consumption. That’s a specialist skill and a high cost to being wrong.

I did once grow some of a safe variety from mycelium though (grow kit).

I haven’t got my morning rain strategy down yet so I drove in today. I’ll take it as a leg break and maybe take the analogue bike tomorrow

Ah early morning rain showers. There’s nothing else like the soft patter of light rain mingling with the dings from the trams.

New project. Not sure if it will work yet, but I think you can get the idea. (Black just to not flash)

Looks like one too. All grey and rainy.

I looked up the weather radar, thought there was lots more rain incoming, then realised I’m looking at completely the wrong side of Melbourne! The rain’s pretty much past Ballarat now and it’s looking likely to be clear. Another cup of coffee and then I’ll rug up to take Mr Woof out on his first neighbourhood orientation walk.

I was at the shopping centre earlier, paying for stuff at the fruit shop. I hear all this yelling and see a guy going nuts from a security guard confronting him over stealing something from a store. He starts shouting and causing destruction - knocking store displays over, hitting fruit and vegetables from displays onto the ground and was coming closer to me. I turn around and start pushing my trolley back from the register to get away from him. While I was turned around he picked up a giant pumpkin from a display next to the register and threw it right at the back of my head. This was a massive grey pumpkin, like a rock to the head. Now I’m sitting here with an ice pack to my head wondering why me. Thankfully no bleeding and I feel ok so far, just sore.

I reported it to centre management and made myself known to the police before I left. Surely this is some kind of assault.

What the fuck! That’s got to be assault. Glad you’re getting checked out. Hopefully no major damage done… it would be a good story to tell at parties. But seriously, hope the pain subsides soon and your brain and skull are ok.

      Bloody hell.

I’d definitely at the very least have someone check on you over the next few. Sometimes TBI’s can be delayed.

That’s nuts. I’m glad you got out of there.

Really not good about the blow to the head though, I agree with everyone else to be very careful about that. Fingers crossed that nothing serious has happened.

In an ideal world, the cops will probably get footage of the incident from the store cameras which will contain enough evidence for the assault against you and other crimes, that you won’t be required in court to make the case.

That sucks for you. Consider there might be some whiplash or sore neck injury too.

Re-watching familiar tv is recommended for concussion.

Eeek! Please check in at the nearest emergency hospital - head injuries and swelling inside the skull take a bit of time to develop and can be devastating. Any nausea or funny light effects or dizziness or slurred speech - call an ambulance please.

Basically, a serious head knock is equivalent to a stroke - needs to be checked out by professionals.

I booked an appointment with my local GP in 30 mins to get checked out. If they say I should go to the ER I will go. So far I feel ok, just sore and I can feel a lump. Thank you though, this is what I needed to hear!

Smart move. The lump is a good sign - maybe no inside the skull bruising, just external. Hope all checks out OK for you.

All clear from the GP - he just said to monitor during the next 24 hours for swaying or anything else unusual, if that happens then I need to go hospital. The $110 bill for the appointment was a sting but my usual bulk billing doctor closes at 6pm and the other one in my area was fully booked, didn’t have a choice. I reckon the shopping centre management should be paying, not me.

This is going to sound weird but hear me out.

Get your frozen strawberries, preferably with icicles on them, into a bowl.

Microwave (mik-row-wah-vay) them part of your dishwasher is empty, so for about two minutes for me. You’re left with kind of soft strawberries and some “strawberry water”.

Add a few tablespoons of yoghurt and mix. You now have a dessert that has the warmth of a pudding and consistency of runny custard.

    That’s disgusting, isn’t it…

Breaking news: Miss Meow has trialled her window hammock. It was apparently a good place for some after breakfast grooming. She has now disapeared again, either for more box exploration or maybe just going back to bed.

Mr Woof has also successfully navigated the dog door for the first time this morning. He’s now napping on my lap, which he fully deserves after the big day yesterday - it’s very stressful for a security dog to see a bunch of people tresspass onto your territory and steal absolutely everything.
