I was wondering if 30 bucks is a fair price for this game. I know that the port is very much bare bones and that Rockstar cheaped out on it but right now the game is selling for 40% off and I was wondering if it is worth it for this price or shall I wait more for deeper discounts? Like the summer sale is coming but I doubt the game will be even cheaper then.

It’s a good game but if you haven’t played it it won’t feel nostalgic and therefore possibly a bit dated. It holds up quite well though. 30 bucks however is outrageous. It’s a 15 year old game ffs. I’d pay 10, maybe 15 bucks but anything more and I’d just emulate the PS3 version instead.

  • I’ve mixed feelings on it. On one hand I feel the game is really overpriced given how old it is and how barebones the port is, and I feel 30 bucks is still a bit much.

On the other hand, if this is your first time playing the game, there IS a lot of content there. It’s a fairly big game to stick your teeth into. Ignoring its age and status as a port, I can see an argument for $30 being valid based on content. But I feel this should be its full price.

If I hadn’t already completed it on PS3, I’d buy it now at this price. I don’t think rockstar is likely to discount it further.

Yes, I have never played it and I played RDR II which I really liked. I think I might give it a go and refund it if it is not my cup of tea. What I really enjoyed in the second part was the story.

I believe it’s a fair price. The game is old now, but it’s still the same game. It was worth $50 (or was it $60?) when it was released, and it’s worth $30 now, IMO.

I have been brainwashed about old game prices by Nintendo though, so not sure if everyone will agree with this 😀

30 USD is the lowest price it has been on Steam so far. The summer and winter sales usually have the best prices, so if you wait another six days, you’re likely to see a price at least that low; maybe lower.

    I would wait.

For what it’s worth, I found RDR1 a lot less interesting than RDR2, which is often on sale for half that price.

Yes, I don’t think they will discount it even further for the summer sale, maybe there is a small chance for the winter one, but even if they do it 50% off, that’s like 5 bucks extra, not a huge amount of money.

I tried the torrent version and didn’t find it very interesting. Dropped after an hour or something. 2nd part was even worse by my taste – even mundainer and extremely slow(in plot processes, not fps-wise)

But both games are critically acclaimed so you should look at them by yourself. Just download it from torrents and try.

I’ve seen them way cheaper in Britain, guess I must have been looking at the right time

If you don’t want to spend the 30, just wishlist it and wait to pounce while you play something else. It’s not going anywhere unless you are.

A lot of reviews on Steam address this exact question, read them. Ultimately, it’s down to your taste. RDR1 is a notable step down compared to RDR2 for quite obvious reasons, so see it for yourself whether you’re ready to deal with an Xbox 360 era game.

After almost finishing part 2 I’m interested in how the story continues. But I’m happy to wait until they drop the price to a reasonable amount (< 15 €), even if that time may never come.

I’m a big fan of the game, and it’s on my steam list, but I’d say no. It’s way too old to be $30.

I personally prefer RDR1 to RDR2. $30 is a little high for game that old, I think $20 is the sweet spot. RDR2 has too much filler for me, which seems to be Rockstars MO in recent years. RDR1 is more straightforward with just the right amount of side quests thrown in.

After resisting at first, I started listening to the RDR1 soundtrack again recently and then the nostalgia became so strong I just had to buy it. I bought the Switch cartridge from Amazon for £30 a few days ago.

Is it a fair price? Not really. Is it a game I don’t expect a heavy discount on any time soon because it’s Rockstar? Yes. Am I enjoying playing again, at way higher resolution and clarity than it ever was on PS3? Absolutely.

It’s actually a better port than I was expecting, and much more of an upgrade than I expected from PS3.
