I’m rude to debt collectors who call me trying to collect debts from people who happen to once have had the same phone number as I once did. Like, I’m not who you’re trying to collect from, fuck off.

I’m also rude to generally any scam caller, they’re some of the few people I take great pleasure in telling off because I can get away with it. They’re scammy assholes, what’re they gonna do? Cry to the authorities? Knowing that they’re pieces of shit who scam people out of money? Good fucking luck.

“Sure, sport”. “You’re welcome, tiger.” “No problem, little buddy.”

I keep hoping someone will keep up the stupid pet names with me so I can just make the responses more and more absurd every time, but they generally stop after the first one. I have sooooo many ideas in the tank and I’m just waiting for the excuse to call someone porkchop or pickleface.

it’s a term used to belittle women, by implying that they can’t make “important” decisions by themselves while also implying that they must have a man with them to be able to fullfill life.

I believe that the commenter above wrote it as a joke, by roleplaying one of the people the original commenter complained about and giving an extra example.

These pet names are lovely to those who want/expect it, and annoying and demeaning to those that dont. Im sorry others use these names on you or others in your life that dont like it. It sounds recductive but, ask them to stop, most dont want to hurt others and if they know you dont like it and ignore your request they are assholes that deserve the worst.

No. I should not have to ask grown adults not to call me these names. These are co-workers, acquaintances, strangers, not people who should be assuming any level of familiarity with me. The default should be basic respect.

“Just this. Just that.” Stop telling the people getting shit on to make excuses and accomodations for the behavior of people with power.

Linguistic elitists—for example, people who shout that “the Blacks don’t speak good English” or who get pissed off that “I could care less” is an idiom that exists.

I was a linguistics major in college and, sorry not sorry, language is malleable and it changes over time. You can’t stop it. Look the French—the Académié Française can try to legislate the language all they want, but nobody says la coussin de sécurité, they just say l’airbag.

I’m not really rude by default to anyone. If I’m in a bad mood I guess I can sometimes get rude when irritated. But I feel like all humans deserve some base level of respect and courtesy.

If it’s someone horrible like a serial killer or child rapist or something I wouldn’t even be rude, just not interact at all with them.

But generally speaking, people are all humans. Scam callers are third worlders from poor countries. If I lived in Nigeria making less than $800 a month in salary, I wouldn’t feel bad about scamming rich westerners. We live in prosperity and luxury whereas they get the shit end of the stick. I don’t blame them.

Debt collectors are just doing their job. They have a family to feed, have hopes and dreams, probably hate their job, etc.

I don’t like Trumpers generally but I try to be polite and friendly. I like planting seeds of doubt into their mind. Criticize Republicans in ways they can understand.

“Man Trump is such a shithead, he doesn’t believe in free market capitalism”

They hear the phrase “free market capitalism” and know it’s something they’re supposed to support, so they ask for clarification

“Well he put taxes on imports on foreign goods so now steel is more expensive for regular Americans. It’s anti-free market”

They sometimes just shrug and look a bit concerned. Republicans have a lot of little inconsistencies. “Fiscal conservatives” but they balloon the national debt everytime. “Freedom and liberty” but they try banning books, drag shows, abortions, trans surgeries, etc. Reagan is an idol but he supported getting rid of guns, gave amnesty to illegals, his economic advisor Friedman supported open borders, etc.

It’s really not that hard to throw a little cognitive dissonance their way. It only works if they see you as a friend though. If they think of you as an enemy or threat, they will immediately get defensive and you’ll probably just make them more set in their beliefs.

Republicans, Trump supporters, and family that still support the current Republican party. They have to know to a large degree what they’re supporting and deserve no tolerance or excuse for their support of it.

I’m generally polite to everybody, but I do believe that it’s immoral to be a debt collector, so I judge them pretty hard inwardly. I’d live in a tent or get a job flipping burgers before I would stoop to that level.

If your livelihood relies on hurting others, you’re a bad person.

Ditto on all telemarketers/robo calls. Useful tip: if you know its a robo/marketer/scam answer the phone with “Thank you for calling, can I get your last name first and your order number?” then progressively and aggressively keep asking for personal details of them and their order.

I’m the same. Spam caller? Just hang up. Someone cuts me up in traffic? I’ll be upset but not gonna waste any time on the ass who did it. People with dumb ideas? Tell them what you think but close the conversation or walk away.

I remember in a tech shop someone ranting after being asked for their email address when paying. Kept a few of us in the queue waiting and what did he win from it?? Did he really feel good after shouting at shop staff?

Can’t see any win from being rude to anyone. Just live and let live man.

It’s not on other customers if a shop has you waiting. It’s on the shop for making it needlessly complex. It’s like blaming someone who is reading out their coupon numbers: they are the user. Not the dev team. Take your complaint to the right people who can make the difference to the business model. Long queues isn’t the customer’s fault. It’s on how that business is managed. you could hold your breath if you ever think your happiness is a prerogative by another customer’s responsibility.

And while I agree about the energy thing with scammers, I do not agree with calling it a waste of time if someone else is going to stand up to it.

Scammers take advantage of the vulnerable elderly. So good on the ones who slow them down. No need to minimize their effort by calling it a waste of time. Like you said : live and let live.

Antimaskers, antivaxxers, “stop the steal” assholes, homophobes/terfs/bigots in general. If your ideas injure and kill others, I am going to treat you like someone that spreads ideas that injure and kill others not as someone to be debated in a “civil” manner.
