I was a RIF user for 8 years, and now I’m here. Fuck Spez.
RiF user since 2011. I’m now trying replacement apps for Lemmy. Liftoff and Jerboa look pretty good. Am trying Connect for Lemmy, but it looks super buggy right now.
Do you guys recommend any other app to browse Lemmy from the Google Play Store?
The app store apps are a little janky still or now. I just started using wefwef.app (it’s a pwa. Just put wefwef.app in your browser) and it’s been the best so far. It’s a recreation of alien blue for iOS.

Reddit is Fun is still working for me. I can browse subreddits but I can’t post or login.
It’s using a different API than the OAUThed one, since everyone was logged out when the API shut down.
Not as much as an api as an xml dump.
Kind of dumb to let that available (since the claimed problem was massive scraping for AI datasets) while blocking posting and upvotes.
It will likely be shutdown too.

RIF was the primary way I consumed Reddit. Killing it was a dumb move.

Same and I agree that reddit pushing off all 3rd party apps was a bad decision. I keep automatically opening the app before remembering it’s not going to work. Gonna take some time to get used to just using lemmy
If you’re using a browser on your phone, you may be able to create an icon for getting into Lemmy directly and sticking it where RIF was.

Legit. I’ve only had positive interactions since being here. The last few years on rif positive interactions were becoming few and far between.

Now I’m excited to see what this Lemmy.world is all about - does it have an app on the Play store?
There are several. Unfortunately, they are all in early alpha. Lemmy wasn’t quite ready for the mainstream, so the developers are scrambling a bit. That said, the improvements, even over just the last week or so, are impressive. Even if the apps are currently a bit threadbare and buggy still.
Jerboa is available on the app store. I’m personally using Thunder, though you need to download it from GitHub right now to use it. There are several more out there, but I’ve not played with them yet.
Ah that’s good there are things coming! Looking forward to what the devs can do.

I think the apps will drastically improve in the next month so I’m just using a mobile browser until I see which one becomes the best. The mobile browser is already way better than reddit on a mobile browser so it’s not bad.

Yeah, this new setup is a little complicated but I see a lot of potential. As a former karma whore I like the simplicity of just posting for the sake of posting.
For now, jerboa is a decent working alternative as an app for lemmy.
I can’t get logged in through Jerboa. It keeps saying my server is on too low of a version.

Any good Lemmy app replacing rif? Looking for the ability to show tow rows of cards like rif. I seem to be in the minority for using that feature.
I use to like Jerboa, but after several timeouts, not differentiating between instances, and multiple errors I gave others a try. I downloaded wefwef.app and I’ve been liking it so far. I think I’ll be using it until a polished native version comes out.
Download Connect for Lemmy, I think reverse row is what you want. You can change it in the settings. I used RIF the same way
wefwef in compact mode is really similar to RIF. Highly suggest you try it out.
