Islam is so clear in its hate for queer relationships you’d have to be a fucking idiot to think an honest Muslim is fine with someone being gay.

Many liberals celebrated when Hamtramck, Michigan, elected a Muslim-majority council in 2015

Did they? I remember that happening, I don’t remember the celebrating.

The celebration was assumed. See, Republicans always make a habit of hating anything that Democrats like, so the feeble minded journo with a looming deadline and no solid leads will assume the reverse is also true. Thus, because Republicans hate Muslims and want to eject them from any form of government, they’d assume Democrats must always celebrate whenever Muslims get majority control of some government body.

I’m being less sarcastic than I would like to, here.

I’ll try to be generous and say that maybe some misguided people on the left were celebrating this, believing it was a win for diversity, but it sure wasn’t widespread.

It’s like the homeopathy of progressiveness. Just the tiniest, most ineffectual dose imaginable. Like “Sure they’re far right theocratic zealots who want to crush women and queer folk, but at least these ones are brown!”

Why would they feel betrayed by conservatives doing conservative things? Then again, democrats love “reaching across the aisle” to fascists.

The establishment Democratic party is neoliberal which is not a far reach from the conservative Republican party (as opposed to the reactionary Republican party).

That’s to say they Democrats are to the right of th American public, and most of the developed world. They depend on the GOP being consistently worse than they are.

And neither atheists nor progressives have a voice in the US.

It’s not. I’d say it’s “olds” but that doesn’t make any sense grammatically speaking 😅

It’s almost as if the answer is to stop voting anyone with a clearly abrahamic based religious agenda into power.

What does it have to do with a Muslim city in the US persecuting public displays of homosexuality?

It has to do with the consequences of electing politicians with a religious agenda, which is the topic of conversation in the thread you replied to.

Republican propaganda, liberals don’t feel betrayed. Liberals want separation on church and state that includes all churches not just Christianity.

It isn’t republican propaganda, it is shitty journalism clickbait:

“There’s a sense of betrayal,” said the former Hamtramck mayor Karen Majewski, who is Polish American.

      And it worked.

That’s quite a jump you made. I said let’s just separate church and state. I didn’t say I was backing any one person in this particular situation. No we should not persecution of homosexuality because there would be no basis to do so if we separated religion from the government.
