Today I posted a picture of a stamp with an animal in it and they said the picture contained nudity and made me take it down, but I reported a photo of a guy with a fully visible swastika tattoo and they said that’s fine.

I’d like to start a Lemmy community with photos of stuff that they refuse to remove called FacebookSaysItsFine.

    Delete your account.

Reach out to the people you only talk to through Facebook and give them your contact information.

It’ll be awkward and you might lose some people, but every person who quits makes it easier for everyone else to quit. Quitting is better for your health and happiness.

Years ago I noticed a picture my niece had liked that was a couple of her friends jumping on their bed in only underwear. The girls were probably 11 or 12 so I reported it as inappropriate. A few days later Facebook replied to my request that the pictures were not against the TOS. I couldn’t fuckin believe that. I encouraged my niece to suggest that the pictures be removed before a pervert found them. That was what finally worked but I suspect those girls probably thought I was the pervert.

I worry about this on fediverse stuff. I made the mistake of looking at the links from a person who commented on anti trans legislation and let me just say yikes!

The link was to something trying to legitimize the identity of “map.”

        NOPE.

I deleted my comments and blocked the sick bastard.

            When did “CP” become “CSAM”?

If you want to change the acronym, wouldn’t “CR” make more sense?

'cause porn is made with consenting adults. CSAM isn’t porn. CR is typically what’s depicted in CSAM (assuming that R stands for rape), but there’s two (or more) separate though closely related crimes here. That and SA (sexual assault) covers a wider breadth of activities, which is good if a person wants to quibble over the term rape when regardless something horrific happened to a kid and videos/images of said horrific thing is now getting shared among pedophiles.

Will note I’ve only seen CSAM used when I started using Lemmy, so I’m not really sure when people started using the term over CP. I’m personally for it - it more accurately describes what it is, and while I haven’t seen this term in the wild SAM to describe video or images of non-consenual sex acts among adults is good too.

I would suggest the opposite. Perhaps a Facebook doesn’t allow this, community. Too much risk of attracting trolls and monsters.

That said. The FBI says that Facebook, Instagram, Twitter et al. They all contain a not insignificant amount of CSAM at any given point in time. The fact just never gets reported by press because they’re normalized platforms by the public. Only the fediverse gets that sort of negative attention in the press because it’s the disruptive outsider platform. When by both proportion and volume, almost all other platforms have a worse issue with awful content that regularly flies under the radar because they are big corporations.

Nudity is an easy one, nobody will be annoyed if you decide to remove nudity from your platform, especially if it’s in an attempt to avoid CSAM. Even here most instances accept a large margin of error to do so.

Not everyone agrees that swastika tattoos should be removed from online platforms. It’s not even just nazis, free speech absolutists will totally disagree with the message, but still argue that they have a right to post it.

I don’t agree that shit should be left up personally, but I also don’t think Meta should be the one deciding what can and can’t be posted on their platforms aside from the obvious violence and nudity. Crazy thing is they actually agree. They’ve been lobbying governments to regulate social media content moderation for ages, but nobody will touch it and look like they’re going after “free speech”.

We’re not talking a Lemmy instance here, Facebook has 3 billion users. No, I don’t think they should be deciding what people can and can’t post there.

Edit: Wow, very surprised at the immediate response on here. Lemmy’s favourite thing is shitting on Facebook, but you want them to globally decide which content can and can’t be shared? Lol alright

I’ve already pretty clearly said that governments should regulate this, not Meta. How could you even interpret my comments to mean “allow everything”?

I’m guessing this bullshit line of questioning is an attempt to convince yourself that I’m the type of person you’ve already decided I am in your head, which is pretty fucking lame. Not everyone has to live in political extremes.

I quit Fbook and all the “social” media a few years back, and haven’t missed it at all. Any “friend” who will only interact with me via Fbook/etc, rather than in-person, text, or even email or phone call isn’t a real friend, or real relationship at all. Also there’s a couple peopke who treat linkedin as facebook2.0, but I can mostly ignore those. I use it to keep a professional network and linkedin seems to be doing an okay job at that.

The good people left Facebook a long time ago. I would even argue before the place was taken over by boomers.

I think ultimately, it was the share functionality that ruined Facebook, because it was once the place where you keep up with your friends, but then the genuineness of it is gone after you realize they only see their friends as a captive audience to get likes and get a boost for their Farmvilles.

It’s a dehumanizing place, which is why it became a wasteland.
