It was a poor strategy, IMO.

RB should have started on mediums or even softs and assumed there would be a safety car.

Then they could have pushed up and pitted for new tires with everyone else. Starting on the hard tires would have been a good strategy on a different track, but the hosts were saying on the preshow that there’s been a safety in every previous race.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and if there had not been a safety, it may have been one of the greatest wins ever for RB that we’d all be gobsmacked about for years, so who knows.

This is my favorite race of the season so far.

I think you mean race end. The first 45 laps were exceptionally dull

They were if one doesn’t understand strategy. The whole race was tense.

It was tense yes. But it was tense because everybody was waiting for others to make a move or a mistake(nobody was proactively trying to do anything). By that logic Monaco every year is similarly tense because people are often running nose to tail and hence Monaco should also be considered as good races.

There have been like 3-4 good Monaco races in the past 15 years. Out of the three-four good ones, 3 were good because of rain/variable weather. Occasionally it could be a good tactical battle revolving around the pitstops(see Monaco 2022 and 2023) but overtaking is too hard now to have excitement in dry conditions

I agree. But the has to be some avenue for possible changes to the racing order. Can’t undercut in races like Singapore or Monaco because tyres take longer to get into the window and because the field is bunched as everyone is going artificially slow. Can’t overcut these days because everybody is going slow and saving tyres.

Take Monza for example. It is hard to overtake there as well because of the reduced effects of drs and slipstream but the race is never boring because drivers are making a genuine attempt to overtake and all the off track tactics like overcut, undercut are also viable.

Probably clipped the inside wall which broke the suspension. There’s a bit of a bump right before the corner. (at least in the F1 game, presumably it’s there in real life too)
