I grew up with Pokémon red and gold. In those games, you can kind of just ignore the story and play through the game.

At some point Pokémon seemed to switch, and have so much more dialog forced upon you, especially in the early game.

When did this start? Was it with Pokémon X and Y or did it come later? I know Sun and Moon felt that way to me.

    If you’re up for emulating anyway I’d recommend Platinum. The Switch remakes were mostly faithful to the original D/P but not the improvements from Platinum. They do not fix many problems, and IMO they feel absolutely horrible to play.

      Thanks! I just checked comparison a of the games and I was happy to see that platinum fixed the surf speed.

      I’m totally going to go that route.

      I just need one more badge in gold? Elite 4, then johto

      After that, I’ll do emerald, then platinum.
