Missed all the rain. Stoked! Racked up almost 200km with a late start this afternoon. I always forget how cool it gets up in the hills.

Kind of hoping for climate change to result in what happened in The Day After Tomorrow. Can I be stuck in a flooded, frozen city, in a library, and get naked with a hottie to keep warm? I’m looking forward to re-enacting that hot af scene tbh

I was in Footscray having dinner when it hit. I got up to leave and thought I’d accidentally ended up in another city

People can get things very wrong. Have a look at the bozo answers. Australian slang I get that you might never have heard it. It doesn’t mean the op is wrong though.

People enjoy shitting on others to make themselves feel superior. It’s gross. I have not heard of ‘gig’ in that context, but I didn’t grow up in every single state, city, and town in Aus simultaneously. OP is just trying to the slang-etymology for that usage, doesn’t mean they’re wrong. Netizens can be so cuntish.

I was sufficiently moved by the confidently incorrect assertions of some of the respondents to this post to add my own contribution. Yes, I know people that use the word “gig” in this manner, and u/Positive_Complaint had to dust off her 3rd party app and add her 5c!

reddit has turned in to a steaming pile of crap. or maybe it was always like that. thankful we moved away for our special kind of banter. A gig is a job, a kind of horse cart but I’d never heard of being a sticky beak slang term, learn something every day. I’ll never quite understand why people bother to waste time being jerks online.

We used to say “take a goog at that”. It also kinda rhymes with look.

A “gig” is a job, usually referring to bands playing a show. That is all it has ever meant.

Sums up Reddit in a nutshell. “Only MY way of using a word is correct. Everyone else is a fucking idiot who can’t speak English.”

Eeeeee!!! I accidentally found the cat’s cuddle spot!!! 😻😻😻 it’s much closer to the TV than I would normally sit but I decided to sit there while petting her and she CRAWLED ONTO MY LAP. I nearly died. I didn’t have my phone but when she got up for a bit I grabbed it and sat back down and here she is purring up an absolute storm. She hasn’t cuddled at all the whole 2.5 weeks I’ve been here - I’ll sit here all day long to feel her purring contentedly against me1. Oh please kitty cat don’t let this be a one time thing. We can chill any time. Any time at all. <3

I could die happy right now, but then I might not get to experience this again tomorrow so no dying for me today.

Cats are so good at making feel like a piece of useless garbage but they also make you feel so special and divine when they choose to lavish their love upon you. No, I am not a battered cat slave, don’t send help…

Teddy is adrift without the baby boy that usually lives in this house… (who probably just drools all over him at this stage tbh)

She’s not at that stage yet. She prefers to stay mostly adjacent. I went to go feed her (I’m guessing this cuddliness was all a ruse…!) and now she’s back to ignoring me from the other side of the house. But if I can be cat trapped by her before I head back home that would be an accomplishment indeed.

The clouds have rolled in over Thornbury. The soft undersides of the clouds are beginning show the warm glow of approaching sunset. Well, either that or Footscray’s on fire, and I’m sure someone would have mentioned it if that was the case.

And as you are commenting about it, therefore you are in a position to do so, so Footscray is NOT on fire. This is reassuring.

The band’s just hitting hard out west; the cat is concerned. Looks like it’ll be over quickly though

Man I hate these tortilla packets that’s like “great for burritos”. My burritos are bloody tiny!!! What do you mean? I want big burritos.

I looked it up in the britannica

Lumpy and cylindrical, the burrito takes its name, according to one theory, from the bedroll that Mexican miners and travelers would drape across the saddle of a donkey, or burro in Spanish. Another possible origin suggests that street vendors sold burritos from baskets attached sidesaddle to their burros, the conveyance transferring its name to the thing conveyed.

Hey just so you know, the image description for vision impaired users was actually already in the alt text of the photo in that comment (which you put in the square brackets when you use markup). That’s how image descriptions are meant to work. If you hover over the photo on desktop or long press to open the image in another tab on a mobile browser you’ll see the description.

Just fyi about accessible tech if you’re going to keep wanting to label peoples photos.

Ok well I use the safari version of Aussie.zone on my phone only, to me it just looks like it’s just the photo of your cat with nothing else. I tried long pressing and it didn’t do anything. Whatever the case, I must be the only person who didn’t realise this and apologise for adding the ID and I promise never to add an ID to any future image from anyone :) thanks for letting me know

Ok so I looked into this and amazingly enough the only way it seems that you can access the alt text on Safari iPhone is to actually turn on VoiceOver in Settings>Accessibility - which most vision impaired users (those would need alt text at least) would use anyway in order to navigate the OS, but sucks if you’re testing. When VoiceOver is activated, and my comment is read out (you can try it by selecting it with the image in Safari), VoiceOver does indeed read the alt text.

You won’t have the same issue with Chrome on iPhone, you can long press and see the alt text.
