Free speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. Free speech doesn’t mean the freedom to say “bro it was just a joke relax” to nullify any anxieties you’ve created out of the situation. (americans) have a right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You threatening others right to LIFE with your free speech (even if you yourself know it will only ever just be speech) might be hazardous to your own well-being (unless prison sounds like a fun vacation for you).

There’s no justification or reason to grant the rights of free speech to those who would deny it to others.

A threat of violence indicates that the threatening party doesn’t respect the right of the other party to speak freely. There’s no free speech when you’re in fear for your life, or dead.

Oh, Trump is certainly guilty. He has it coming.

What I hate are these foaming-at-the-mouth people who hate him because of his crassness while overlooking other cases of endemic corruption in Washington because it is committed by respectable “in” people.

If you’re just talking about the words for what they literally mean, yes. If you’re talking about the Constitutionally protected right to free speech, no.

So I can go to all of your neighbors, knock on their doors, tell them how you’re a pedophile and that’s okay because it’s free speech, right?

You do you bud. I’ll follow behind with my free speech saying how u just murdered 13 children by skinning them alive.

See how it works both ways? Ain’t free speech great.

So you would be okay with all of your neighbors thinking you’re a pedophile?

          I seriously doubt it.

Yes, that’s my point. And you can’t do that because we have slander laws. You want to get rid of those apparently.

Me, freely saying whatever I want, like “Fuck you, Your On-Her, I’m glad I wrote those death threats and I hope you get two in the back of the skull by my close associates, kapesh!”

The judge saying whatever he wants, like “I find you guilty of attempted murder and sentence you to 30 years in prison”.

      Free speech for everyone! Yay!

“Oh, I thought this was America!” Stan Marsh could be heard to say, as he was stuffed into a police car following his attempt to plant a bomb in what he calls a “free speech demonstration”. Also, crocodiles, in your child’s crib? It’s more likely than you think. More at 11.

When people, often right wingers, say they want free speech what they actually mean is they want freedom from consequences of their speech. The Constitution only protects you from the government preventing your speech.

Except this doesn’t apply to fascists. When talking to fascists, replace that with “I disagree with you, and you should probably stop being a bigoted piece of shit. Fascism is wrong. Please stop being such a hateful person, because the next person you say that hateful stuff to might not just verbally confront you, and might use other means of confrontation [Read: beat the shit out of you]. Don’t talk to me ever again unless you manage to become a better person.”

Unfortunately true. Paradox of tolerance: Civilization can tolerate a lot of things, but it can’t tolerate the intolerant. If it tries to tolerate the intolerant, it dies.

There’s just something about ‘you can throw the second punch but not the first’ that Republicans can’t seem to get through their tiny little peanut brains.

Too black and white, missing context and other sides of this argument.

I lean pretty far left and I’ve seen my fair share of liberal/leftists that fall in the same frame as the right winger on the bottom frame.

Not to mention, there’s agreeing to disagree about a favorite color. I’m pretty sure most sane people won’t agree to disagree about genocide/homicide, etc.

Private companies seem to control 99% of the platforms so them shutting people out could be an actual issue.

Societal problem? Sure. They ban leftists far more agressively than violent righties.

Either way it’s not a free speech issue. It’s a monopoly issue, but people don’t seem to understand that there doesn’t have to literally be ONE choice to start suffering severely from the same exact problems.

The only thing we can afford to be intolerant of is intolerance.
