Also note that this was a spare VIP jet for Qatar.

It isnt something they had built for him, its just something they had laying around and gave it to him.

There comes a point when a person, organization, or country is so obscenely wealthy that the normal human mind can’t readily grasp just what that kind of wealth means. A normal person hears “bespoke private 747” and thinks “Wow! That’s worth rather a lot!” An obscenely wealthy person thinks “Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’ve got a couple of those parked somewhere. I bet I could pack one full of listening devices and pass it off as a special gift.”

Usually when some rich person gives you something expensive … they want something in return for the favour

well obviously they don’t want anything in return for a 400 million dollar jet, because that would just be corrupt as fuck.

Didn’t the Saudis just sign a $900b arms deal?

Any chance Qatar owed them a $400m favour?

Reminds me of the time Putin pardoned his buddy, and then his private jet mysteriously fell apart mid flight when an S400 hit it.

Secret service (or is it the air force?) would never let him fly on it, right? It doesn’t have the safety features.

No no, it’s all right, the Quatari will install exactly the same safety features as are currently in AF1, Donald just sent them the cardboard box with all the specs.

I read they were going to have to tear it all the way down and basically rebuild it from scratch anyway just to have all the stuff he’s too stupid to know about that AF1 needs to have.

He thinks it’s got a toilet and a microwave it must be good to go. But hey, who can tell - maybe they fired all the people who know a damned thing and they’ll just let him prance around on this monstrosity hoping it goes tits up over a great lake.

Yeah, it would have to be stripped down to the ribs not just to add all the comms, security, defense, and other systems, but also to assure there weren’t any security vulnerabilities hiding somewhere. Hell, coming from a hostile foreign nation, I’d be suspicious of the flight management system and the “fasten seatbelts” lights!

See this “rational thought” and “logic” you’re employing means you can’t work for this administration. Good luck in future endeavors though.

That’s because Trump is a Shark and the average Americans buying dolls for their children are Minnows.

Conservatism generally believes whoever is at the top of a hierarchy deserves it by virtue of being at the top of the hierarchy, so long as they believe that person got there by merit and hard work. Minnows should be happy to scrounge for scraps. Sharks deserve everything they can get because, according to the mythos, they know what to do with the power and can wield it much more effectively than that meddling government.
