Just been informed an old coworker has passed away. He always made me laugh. The world has lost a good man.

Still sick as fuck. Taking small joys in Selkirk the cat and kids apparently staging protest marches in Roblox (which I have never played, but whatever)

You have been charged with 3 counts of supplying out of date pepperoni to your family. How do you plead?

    Not guilty, Your Honor 😬

Trying a new gym class tonight and I’m actually very nervous. My fitness has slipped so much, am looking for something to inspire me!

Welp, it must be some kind of divine intervention or something but my presentation has been postponed at the last minute to some day next week. I’m still going to work towards finishing up to present to my supervisor tomorrow arvo, I NEED URGENT DEADLINES OR MY BRAIN WON’T WORK.

I too love deadlines and it’s a problem.

So I try to set rules of must do . Check lists help a lot. It’s like a rule.

My problem is that the check lists are out of control (the more I do the more I realise I need to do and my priorities start getting confused). I have managed to stick to some relatively hard constraints for this presentation so I’m going to make sure the slides and all the diagrams are done that way I am free to move back onto the thesis. Rather than juggling everything at once…

Does the presentation have a word limit or talking component limit?

I generally stick to the criteria that they ask for careful not to give too much information if it isn’t called for.

It’s about a 15-20 minute presentation with a relatively vague marking rubric. It ascribes equal components to each aspect of the thesis that I will be presenting on, which is a bit dumb since obviously the intro and discussion will require a lot more time than the aims and probably the results.

The presentation itself is going to be picture heavy but a lot of the time is currently being spent creating the diagrams/maps (I will still need these for the thesis as well so it’s not time wasted at least). I have not even finished the slides let alone started coming up with a draft script to time myself. At first I was worried that I would not even get up to 15 minutes but I think I will be able to have minimal text on the slides and expand/summarise as much as is needed depending on how I’m going for time.

Big thanks to everyone yesterday for the kind advice and support for the ol’ girl.

Sometimes it’s difficult to speak about health concerns to others and be listened to, but not here which I’m very grateful for.

I know I should get over it, but do you think it’s ‘ok’ to be miffed about donating something to someone and not even getting a thank you in return?

It’s been a month. I am mostly over it, but from time to time it comes to mind and it bugs me as someone who lives in a world thinking they’ve never mattered.

If it’s a person I donated something to I’d be pretty annoyed but I’ve been more and more noticing how people lack the common courtesy to use just a little bit of manners, which goes a long way.

If thanks isn’t the first word that comes out of your mouth when given something, then there’s something wrong with you.

      Yeah, I’d be pissed off.

I think that’s a normal reaction to not receiving thanks - it’s a simple way of showing gratitude.

my uniseals for patching the tank interlinks came on Monday but I threw my back out on Sunday so I couldn’t get into the tanks yesterday and while better today, it’s too cold for me to be dipping my arthritic paws into tanks full of fucking ice water. Why is life so unkind.

Yesterday YL needed permission to go on an excursion. Yeah yeah sure. Then she says “oh dad. You’ll love this. We’re going to see &$#@%?”. I had no idea what she even said but he got really excited (he doesn’t get excited about much) and then there was a lot of nerd talk and I felt left out.

So this morning I went back to the permission slip and it said “Particle accelerator”. I googled and I still have no fucking clue as to what that is but I learnt that we have the only one in Australia here in Melbourne.

I guess that’s a fun fact for those who know what that is.

The one down at Monash? Oooh jelly! It’s quite fascinating. Basically a big tunnel circle underground, with machines that can squirt atoms/molecules etc. at very high speeds at items in each target zone. Like a very big roundabout with high speed atom cannons instead of roads leading off it. This helps people find out what the items in the target zone are made of and their internal structure. Super useful for mining, engineering, medical stuff and a host of other stuff.

Do you ever look at stuff there and wonder what’s wrong with it and why is it there?

The dog’s too unruly for social trips.

Often, although I’ve become somewhat desensitised to the wacky things they sometimes have, eg, the Mountain Dew flavoured Doritos. I think of it kind of like a food opportunity shop, there isn’t always opportunity.

I went on an excursion to that as well when I was in HS, must have been 2009 or 08, it was very new at that time! It’s so cool! The Australian Synchrotron!

Basically, it’s a big tube with electromagnetic fields, and they use it to make atoms and particles go super fast - it helps with particle physics research!
