Water pick, was using floss sticks (already a huge improvement from flossing normally) this was the first time they suggested I only need 2 cleanings (how many my insurance covers) per year.
A new desk chair. I can finally lean back and change the height now. My old one I had for 6 years couldn’t lean back and the adjustable height was only a 3" difference (wtf).
A UPS. The power grid being very unreliable where I live, the power gets cut about once a week. This innocuous little thing has protected my work and 3000e of hardware from at least 30 cuts since I bought & installed it, for a total cost of 120e. Absolutely the best investment I’ve made recently
Tears of the Kingdom was 10/10
I haven’t bought much, but I did invest in a Flydigi Vader 3 Pro. It’s a controller with Hall Effect sticks so they’ll never drift, mechanical clicky buttons, four customizable back and two front buttons. I got fed up with the sticks going bad on my Dualshocks. It’s a bit early yet, but it works great so far. The software isn’t even that bad considering I was prepared for it to be terrible given the reviews. I used it precisely once to set up my buttons and make sure it had the latest firmware and haven’t booted it up since. It cost a tiny bit more than a Dualsense here in Korea. Which is insane for the amount of features. My latest Dualsense, the left stick went bad after a year of light use. Screw every controller manufacturer using shit analog sticks these days. Looking at you Nintendo and Sony in particular.
A handful of good fountain pens, a few inks that I really love, and good paper. Those are fairly small amounts of money, and ongoing purchases, but good tools that just work and make me happy when I use them are highly valuable to me.
The priciest pen - which writes amazingly - is not necessarily the one I value most. I get the most use out of a $17 pen, and a $25 pen - multiple of each, really, because i must have allllllll of the inks.
Doesn’t take much - or much money spent - to make me happy, really, and I consider that to be one of the few positive aspects of adulting. Once I figured that out and started focusing on quality over quantity in general, life improved dramatically.
Don’t get much better then these
I have a TWSBI Eco that I really love. It’s not going to win any beauty contests but it’s actually really nice to use. Of the 5 or 6 other ones I have, I use this the most often by far.
I just got some J. Herbin “Emerald of Chivor” ink for my Lamy Safari and I love it!
A 14 TB HDD to throw on my Plex server. Went with a cheap option from serverpartdeals.com.
I was using a 4 TB for the longest time and had to go through and delete stuff every month.
Nice deals! Thanks for sharing.
Does anyone knows of something like that based in Europe?
Those recertified drives are an amazing deal!
So glad you just mentioned this - I’ll have to take a look!
Just don’t put anything important on there without a backup. You never know how good the refurbish is on those.
I’m eventually gonna set up a proper RAID array with them to prevent data loss.
I got a 12TB HDD for the same reason this year. Finally sailing the seas again and got my parents on it with overseerr. Very easy for older gen X to use.
A nice bicycle. I’ve easily ridden 2000 km this year on it, improving my fitness, saving me money on transportation and providing me lots and lots of entertainment.
The only problem is that I’m hooked now, and I will definitely be upgrading to an even better bike. Oh well.
Same here! No idea how much I’ve ridden this year but probably 100s of miles. Not looking forward to the upcoming winter. Might still try to ride but between the ice and cold, it may be a bit more difficult.
May I ask which bike?
I got myself one of the Trek hybrids. It’s a nice choice for an entry level commuter bicycle, but now that I’m hooked I’m in the market for a road bike with some higher quality components.
An air cooler. I hate airco (and way to expensive) and got the tip at the hairdresser to get one. Great way to spend the giftcard I received when joining a union. (maybe the union subscription tops it, not sure yet)
what
Aircooler
Pretty simply put, what you get when you take a fan and put a chilled/frozen water bottle in front of it. Say a fan in about the same housing looking like a portable airco with water being dripped in the airflow instead of using a coolant in a radiator to cool the air flowing trough.
It’s a cheaper way to get the temp 1-2 degrees © lower instead of freezing your *** off in dehumidified air.
Where are you getting your ice?
I’m using a cooling element in the water to keep it cool. Those come from the fridge. The cooler came with to elements you can fill with water and put in the freezer, but I prefer to use the elements I already have.
Samsung Galaxy s21 Ultra. It’s just fast. A joy to use. I had been using a $200 phone from another manufacturer.
Bought it refurb from Amazon for a little over $400.
The phone is such an important part of my life. It pays to spend a little extra.
Got myself a proper hiking backpack. An Osprey Exos 58L. Shifting much of the weight to the hips makes a massive difference and my back was very happy!
Osprey packs are amazing! I have the 48L version exos, great bag
I considered the smaller one at first, but decided to take the larger one and use the compression straps to keep it tight when packing a smaller volume. It doesn’t feel as bulky as I thought it would at first.
Just bought Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 on Xbox and I’m pretty excited about that.
One year of Playstation Plus Premium bought in January.
Or maybe the vet bill from my husky’s pyometra surgery. She would have died without it.
Ayy my dog just had this too SMH
Loop Experience Pro earplugs
Most uncomfortable earplugs I’ve ever used lol.
Glad you’re getting on well with them :)
Just shows how different everyone’s ears are.
It’s good to find a thing. Hopefully you have found a thing too. Maybe not Loop, but a different thing.
Yeah I ended up with moldable ones that you squish in and they shape themselves to your ear, then stay soft until you remove them. Tried a few different designs and these worked best for me. It’s so nice being able to sleep in near silence!
I’d heard great things about loop, but they just aren’t right for my ear shape unfortunately.
My autistic friend loves her Loops. After getting the Loops she realised that she doesn’t actually hate large social gatherings, it’s just that hearing hundreds of simultaneous conversations is exhausting. After getting Loops, she is totally fine in sports bars, county fairs, Octoberfest, etc.
Bought a CTS-V2. Daily it and smile every time I drive it. 14mpg on a good day and I give no fucks. Love it and would be another if something happened to it. Life is short, enjoy it.
