https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/1239735 - my previous IRC write-up from 3 months ago.
Been using AdiIRC for about a week now and everything works as good or better than mIRC.
I do recommend a different color scheme thou. https://dev.adiirc.com/projects/adiirc/boards/6
Oh, I’ve been using AdiIRC for ages now, just for chat though. Some quirks, but overall I chose this after using HexChat, can’t remember why now.
Oh frig it’s been a decade
Is dalnet still the place to be?
Dalnet was the noob network, it was all about efnet
libera.chat here, pretty huge mass exodus from freenode.net a couple years ago.
i hang out on irc.scenep2p.net
http://sunxdcc.com/?sterm=MIRC#networks has list of piracy related ones
Was DALnet the palce to be a decade ago? I thought it saw a large exodus 15 years ago…
Freeware, not open source.
Have you tried HexChat or Quassel IRC?
What do you find better in AdiIRC?
Hexchat requires a plugin to enable SSL and Quassel requires you to install certificates. AdiRC just works right out of the box. Hexchat and Quassle did get some discussion in the last big thread.
I’d curious to see your setup for pirating on Hexchat thou. Nothing wrong with more options.
I use hexchat, always have.
On desktop, I used to use Pchat some years ago before moving on to Hexchat, can’t imagine using else.
It’s good to know that other options exist.
Is there anything worthwhile on irc apart from obscure ebooks?
I get all my TV and movies from dcc
A lot of anime groups offer their releases through irc and torrent
Are they any different from ones on Nyaa? If so, can you link a fewM
Horriblesubs was the biggest for a long time, but they closed shop recently. Subsplease.org would now be a good one, they even share the same irc archive as Horriblesubs so you can still access their releases.
They release torrents in the public trackers anyway. So I’m not really missing out on anything from them.
It’s available without having to rely on seeders. Which is often an issue with older series
I use it to get support for FOSS software
it sounds like you never used it right. everything that exists on usenet or torrents can be found on irc.
