Save $100 buying two small fridges, pays $100 a year more in power bills to run two small fridges.

Interesting thanks for sharing! Only thing missing is the absolute chaos in the comments. YT comments are half the fun haha

It’s true haha, and there’s a couple other quirks. Unfortunately the trending page is pretty bad (makes sense, it’s just accountless YouTube) and there lack of tracking that YouTube uses on you mean you only get your subscriptions.

So if you’re a YouTube explorer it can definitely limit finding new channels from the frontpage. (For me so far at least). However, the videos when you are watching something still have a mix of your subs and similar channels, so that’s good enough for me for now. I also assume that it, unfortunately, probably doesn’t fully support the channels (views, engagement). I’m not 100% on what the deal there is but it’s worth mentioning.

Super cool project though, self-hosted solutions are always welcome and the developer seems to be quite young and enthusiastic which is always welcome.

Enjoy! They just fixed a hitch with accounts and the subscriptions and it’s nice and stable now it seems!

From the Google: The electricity consumption of average mini or compact refrigerators is about 233 kWh to 310 kWh. Meanwhile, refrigerators (18-20 cubic feet) often use between 404 and 613 kWh.

Seems comparable. And you would only be opening one and losing energy for half of the total volume when doing it this way.

Electrically comparable only if they are volumetrically, which they are not. Typical mini fridges have an average volume of 2.5 to 3 cubic feet. So approximately one sixth the volume for half the electrical consumption is not a worth trade.

You don’t lose half of the volume when you open a fridge door. The “cold” is stored in the items inside the fridge.

While yes you’re very right, that also assumes you have the fridge packed full.

If you’re interested in saving electricity, you should. Even if it’s just a pot of water. Empty refrigerators run constantly.

Yeah I was thinking along those lines too. Hopefully op factored that in and it may be negligible

don’t do this btw, you could very easily start a fire with this.
