  • Australia’s top 3 export markets are China, South Korea and Japan. If they put retaliatory tariffs on the US we should pick up extra business as we will have a price advantage. When the US duped our old conservative PM, Scummo, into pissing of China they put up trade barriers and our “mates” including Canada, NZ and USA all gained at our expense. It’s nothing personal.

We don’t export much to the US and 10% is as low as it goes. Without retaliation the US tariffs would only be a tax on US consumers. But the retaliation from other large economies will damage US exports and jobs and give opportunities to other nations. Thanks, I guess.

  • Also there is a fair amount of ignorance. Australian unions have worked with the ALP for decades to ensure entitlements for Australian workers in these circumstances and Labor passed the FEG legislation.

We get it, the mining lobby and billionaires are a corrupting influence on democracy including the ALP. The ALP aren’t left enough, aren’t proactive enough, whatever. But also the ALP has passed a lot of legislation that benefits working Australians and unsurprisingly you hear fuck all about it from MSM or people pushing minor parties and independents.

When these companies can’t pay entitlements it isn’t the Liberal party, Greens or independents that legislated to ensure workers aren’t going to be completely fucked.

    Credit where its due.

  • Our voting system gives us the freedom to do that and it would be stupid not to take advantage of it. Voting for independent or minors is a good thing as long as you also preference the parties that will actually get elected sensibly. It is important to recognize that while the mining industry can buy just about anyone, there are plenty of important things for average people that the mining companies don’t give a shit about which can make a huge difference.

These industry groups are powerful, like drug cartels, the gambling industry or other organised crime. If some idealistic independent is voted in with a balance of power these guys can make them an offer too good to ignore. They can be set for life with a post political job. They can give jobs to family. They can fund campaigns. And that is all the stuff in public. Look at some of the shit they do overseas and its clearly an ethics free zone.

  • He is a good communicator. Much better presentation than West and much prefer his style to FJ.

Unfortunately with the scale of money and influence from these mostly foreign owned companies state Labor governments are as compromised as the Libs when it comes to legislating on behalf of these companies, not just in WA. I think any political party is going to face the same problems and it really fucks with democracy. There are huge differences in policy between parties and voting should make a real difference. We have a pretty fair electoral system too. But its a joke if the industry can buy whoever is in government or kick them out. It is incredibly frustrating.

  • Many men and women are prone to being dominated and controlled by others. Their insecurities demand simple ideologies and a found family to stand by them. It makes them susceptible to manipulation.

Men have been targetted because fascism requires bullies to intimidate the people and maintain the power of the state. However woman also play an important role as informers, cheerleaders and domestic slaves. Remember it is subservience all the way down. Women might be subservient to their men but the men are all subservient to their leaders. Freedom of thought or action can not be tolerated.

The susceptible people exist. Networks exist to target then. Rich and powerful people exist. It’s inevitable that these things would come together. What isn’t inevitable is that the rest of us would welcome them in without resistance. That part is fucking weird.

  • The first woman in space was Soviet. The first North American of African or latino descent was a Cuban who flew with the Soviets. You get the picture. I’m no tankie. As bad as authoritarian commies are and as much as those were PR stunts to shame the US on the world stage, the US preferred to exclude they own citizens based on misogyny and racism than shield themselves from international criticism.

Human spaceflight is all about the optics as there isn’t much practical benefit. The optics the US was sending in the 60s was of clean cut military white men being sent to the moon by Nazi scientists and the majority was just fine with that.

Not sure that China will beat the US to the moon. They are making a lot of steady progress in spaceflight and technology in general and without the politics and waste we have seen for decades hampering US spaceflight. But even with the gap China has to make up I don’t think it is unrealistic to expect the first woman on the moon will be Chinese now.

  • This sounds like some horrendous Taliban level shit but living in a federal system myself (Australia), k-12 education is primarily a state responsibility here as I believe it is in the US. I wouldn’t want to see this happen in my own country but it wouldn’t be the same as closing down the department of education in an unfederated country like New Zealand or most European nations where it would be disastrous.

Inconsistencies between states here (Australia) used to negatively impact students moving between states and entering tertiary education. Federal systems can be grossly inmeficient and full of duplication and barriers between states.

Unfortunately not having national standards is probably going to increase economic disadvantage in already disadvantaged red states which will only increase division in the US.

  • The tech sector has a massive diversity problem. Lots of young men raised with one hand on their dick watching porn while reading libertarian propaganda. I get why vulture capitalists want naive, manipulable children running their businesses but I wish real adults were in charge.

I have left multiple platforms that don’t offer parental controls, family sharing etc. Fortunately better alternatives exist to all these platforms.

As a older man and father I think these people are pathetic little children and I avoid shitty social media in my house and around my family. Unfortunately they are still having a devastating impact on society.
