The techbros want to abolish labor as thoroughly as possible, full stop.

Replacing scores, if not hundreds, of jobs for one computer toucher churning out utter fucking slop is therefore a good thing for techbros.

And the worst part is they’re gonna be allowed to try to replace people.

No matter how many times medical scientists will explain how sample analysis can’t be automated away, or artists point out how their process is more than just mushing together predigested art, or (in one particularly ghoulish example I saw) suicide hotlines can’t be replaced with chatbots.

The capitalist class is gonna jam generative AIs into places they don’t belong in their manic pursuit of free market efficiency and it’s gonna make everything worse and less convenient.

It isn’t just ruling class assholes believing this, either.

One of the worst computer toucher takes I’ve ever had to read here was someone saying that computer programming and specifically software engineering could, should, and very soon would replace the entirety of psychology and psychiatry because wildly waving hands dae le human brain is meat computer dae le problems in human brain are programming errors. jagoff

Ironically the AI will be better at this than people. I trust the Wikipedia drippings an AI will make more than a coked up business man.

I’m gonna get hired to do this and I’m just going to not use the AI, I’ll write hundreds of very good, heartfelt ideas and say ChatGPT gave them to me.

I was going to do the same but with more pot and less effort and more accurate to what the computer would do:

      A crash bandicoot biopic

      A darkwing duck reboot

The Simpsons but legally distinct and set in medieval times

      Hung, but with more penis

Beavis and Butthead but it’s movie reviews for current movies. Oh wait I guess that’s just cinema sins with more poop jokes.

porky-happy “ChatGPT, make interesting and engaging video content!”

monke-beepboop “I’m sorry, that prompt is too vague for my current capabilities.”

cap-think “ChatGPT, uhh, produce a manual for how to use ChatGPT to create interesting and engaging video content”

monke-beepboop “I’m sorry, that’s not within my capabilities.”

    porky-scared-flipped “What?! What part?”

    monke-beepboop “Any/all of it…”

[The motor carriage’s] wheels crunch on the snow; inside, in the warm cabin, sits the well-known minimalist and deaf music critic Åre Åkerlund, Jesper’s colleague from his office days. His prospects don’t look bright. It’s almost impossible to plagiarise music record reviews from the West if no new records are being made. But Åre Åkerlund does a lot of cocaine, and that, as we know, makes one very intelligent. The social climate is different now, but consumption as such remains. This means that there’s still room for advertising. Åre Åkerlund lays the foundation for the later world-famous Ideas Laboratory in Vaasa, an advertising agency that produces ideas for advertisements instead of actual advertising. Someone else will actually create the ads later. In a few months, a masterpiece of apocalyptic advertising will be born from the Ideas Laboratory. The transport giant ZAMM’s interisolary  campaign is also getting started in the Nordic countries, with the slogan “Escape! It’s not too late.”

I think I might be a garbage AI accelerationist. If the total inundation of LLM slop makes the internet and cable television unusable, maybe people will go back outside and interact with each other face to face again…?

maybe people will go back outside and interact with each other face to face again…?

Maybe… though they’d be outside in an increasingly privatized, polluted, and climate-collapsing environment being accelerated by data centers churning out LLM slop.

Hopefully that will bring more attention and popular sentiment?? Idk I’m just grasping for silver linings haha.

I feel like for a while we lived in this objectivist internet zeitgeist where Google was a source of Truth, but seeing its ad- and AI-driven enshittification seems to be ushering in a new era where searching is just… harder and worse. Similarly, Twitter was once THE forum for Information And Discourse, and we no longer have that… We’re seeing an interesting Tower of Babel moment for the internet, and as it extends to other forms of media I can’t help but wonder how many people will simply drift away from it, as they were never power users to begin with.

Maybe I’m just a prisoner of the moment and new search engines and fora / social media will pop up to take their place, but I’m rooting for the outcome where people start to feel like nothing on their devices is interesting anymore, so they opt to put them down.

Considering how most of the new shows on ITV are a parade of “gritty” cop shows with the same basic structure and handful of archetypes, I’m surprised they hadn’t started firing up the treat printer already.

Prompt: a cop who crossed the line and is trying to get the bad guy but the pencil pushers and their regulations won’t let him do his job. He has a partner that is a political novelty that he trades banter with.

There is a bad cop secretly undermining his efforts to catch the killer for reasons that will slowly be teased out until you stop caring.

B-plot about the cop’s shitty relationship with his child that is slipping into doing a crime.

Set it in rural Yorkshire, the spectre of mass police violence during the miner’s strike will vaguely haunt the background but never be properly addressed. The townsfolk distrust the police because they have something to hide, no other reason.
